## Description

As the GIS Coordinator for the Department of Environmental Quality, you will play a key role in supporting the agency's mission through the effective management, analysis, and application of geospatial data and technologies. This position serves as the department's lead GIS resource, ensuring geospatial information is accurate, accessible, and effectively utilized to support environmental programs, decision-making, and public engagement.

In this role, you will:

 * Lead and coordinate the department's GIS program, ensuring the effective, ethical, and efficient use of geospatial technologies to support environmental protection and regulatory programs.
 * Serve as the primary steward of the department's geospatial datasets and GIS Hub resources, maintaining data quality, integrity, accessibility, and compliance with established quality assurance standards.
 * Conduct geospatial analyses, research, and data development projects that support environmental monitoring, assessment, planning, reporting, and decision-making.
 * Provide technical expertise, training, and support to department staff in the use of GIS tools, data visualization, and spatial analysis to enhance program effectiveness.
 * Represent the department on the State Geospatial Committee and collaborate with federal, state, local, tribal, and other partners on geospatial initiatives, data-sharing efforts, and environmental projects.
 * Serve as North Dakota's Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) Steward, maintaining watershed boundary data in accordance with U.S. Geological Survey standards and coordinating with hydrographic partners to improve statewide datasets.
 * Develop maps, reports, web-based GIS resources, and technical communications for agency programs and public audiences, and conduct field work as needed to support GIS-related projects.
