It combines hands-on analysis with cross-functional problem solving, helping drive better data accessibility, usability, and readiness through existing tooling, analytics, and platform teams. What you'll do... About the Team** Catalog Solutions sits between core item data and the business processes that depend on it across merchandising, supply chain, stores, compliance, and related areas. We work on the shared capabilities that make product-linked data, classifications, supply chain signals, and decision outputs more usable, consistent, and actionable across the company. The team focuses on how these inputs and outputs are shaped, improved, and applied in real workflows. We partner closely with business, product, engineering, and analytics teams to make sure the work is practical, scalable, and connected to how the business actually operates. **About the Role** As **Senior Data Engineer / Data Strategist** , you will lead how Catalog Solutions improves the quality and usability of data and outputs the business depends on, including item-related data, classifications, supply chain signals, and decision outputs. This role sits in a strategy-oriented team, but it is hands-on where it needs to be. You will work across stakeholders and partner teams to understand where the current state is falling short, define what needs to improve, and help move that work forward. Some of that will involve direct analysis and discovery. Some of it will involve rapid prototyping and building while working with engineering and platform teams to shape and scale enhancements. This is a strong fit for someone who is comfortable moving between data, business context, and execution - someone who can investigate issues, bring structure to ambiguity, and help turn findings into practical improvements. **What You'll Do + Identify where data, classifications, supply chain signals, or decision outputs are not meeting business needs. + Work through source questions, logic questions, and usability gaps to clarify what should change. + Use SQL and targeted analysis to investigate issues, validate assumptions, and support decision-making. + Help translate findings into clear actions, priorities, and improvement plans. + Prototype first, then partner with engineering, platform, and business teams to scale enhancements. + Support efforts to make outputs more consistent, useful, and easier for downstream teams to rely on. + Bring structure to cross-functional work where ownership, requirements, or next steps are not yet clear. ## Related Videos - [Alibaba Big Data and Machine Learning Technology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/37-alibaba-big-data-and-machine-learning-technology) - [Data Science in Retail](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/586-data-science-in-retail) - [Data is Key: Scraping Metadata from Websites](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/708-data-is-key-scraping-metadata-from-websites) - [How building an industry DBMS differs from building a research one](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/768-how-building-an-industry-dbms-differs-from-building-a-research-one) - [Why and when should we consider Stream Processing frameworks in our solutions](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1085-why-and-when-should-we-consider-stream-processing-frameworks-in-our-solutions) - [Making Data Warehouses fast.
