We expect you to be based in the Netherlands and willing to come to our Amsterdam office 2-3 days per week (can be more or less on a weekly basis). ## Description We're building a modern, scalable software platform that simplifies maintenance and repair of heavy-duty fleets in the logistics sector. As a Senior Software Developer, you will play a critical role in shaping and delivering core backend functionality while contributing to the frontend where it adds the most value. You will help turn product ideas into reliable, production-ready systems in a fast-moving, startup-style environment. You will work closely with a senior architect and a small, highly motivated engineering team. You're joining at an exciting and dynamic stage: many foundational technical decisions are still being made, and you will have significant influence over architecture, tooling, and engineering practices. With that influence comes real responsibility. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical ownership, thrives in ambiguity, and wants to build real products from the ground up., As a Backend Developer, you will help develop a robust, modular backend using Java and Spring Boot, designed for rapid iteration today and scalability tomorrow. You will work with containerized services on AWS, collaborating closely with product and business stakeholders to translate evolving requirements into pragmatic technical solutions without over-engineering. You will take ownership of key backend domains within our AWS-based platform, building and evolving APIs, data models, and integrations that power our applications. While your primary focus will be backend development, we're looking for someone who can think across the full application - from data layer to user experience - and contribute to our React / Next.js frontend to ensure smooth end-to-end feature delivery. In true startup fashion, you will balance speed with quality, make sensible trade-offs, and actively shape how we build, deploy, and operate our software., * Design, implement, and own backend services and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS. * Take ownership of backend domains, ensuring clean boundaries, maintainable code, and well-reasoned architectural decisions you can substantiate and defend. * Build and evolve data models, working primarily with relational databases (e.g., Amazon RDS PostgreSQL) with a focus on efficient schema design and query performance. * Define and implement secure, well-structured API contracts consumed by React / Next.js frontends. * Think beyond the backend: contribute to frontend development where needed and consider the full application from a user and system perspective. * Work hands-on with AWS infrastructure, containers (Docker), deployment pipelines, and operational concerns. * Act as a technical lead: mentor less experienced developers, guide technical discussions, and lead by example through hands-on contribution. * Write high-quality, testable code and help shape engineering standards, from code reviews to observability and production reliability. Whilst the above outlines the main duties of the post, the list is not exhaustive and may evolve as the product and team grow. ## Related Videos - [Build and Deploy a Fullstack App with Open Source Tooling](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/775-build-and-deploy-a-fullstack-app-with-open-source-tooling) - [Docker Compose: Rediscovered](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1978-docker-compose-rediscovered) - [GraphQL + Apollo + Next.js: A Lovely Trio](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/311-graphql-apollo-next-js-a-lovely-trio) - [Developing the Backend with Stefan Lingler, CTO at Shpock](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100360-developing-the-backend-with-stefan-lingler-cto-at-shpock) - [Meet Your New BFF: Backend to Frontend without the Duct Tape](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/682-meet-your-new-bff-backend-to-frontend-without-the-duct-tape) - [Nest.js - TypeScript in the backend can also be clean](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1033-nest-js-typescript-in-the-backend-can-also-be-clean) ## Related Articles - [How to Find Tech Jobs in Amsterdam](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/279-how-to-find-tech-jobs-in-amsterdam) - [How to land a developer job in Amsterdam](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/36-how-to-land-a-developer-job-in-amsterdam) - [Software Developer Salary in The Netherlands [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/217-software-developer-salary-in-the-netherlands-2023) - [The Netherlands – Europe’s powerhouse for software development?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/31-the-netherlands-europe-s-powerhouse-for-software-development) - [What’s the Difference Between Frontend and Backend Development?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/240-what-s-the-difference-between-frontend-and-backend-development) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs)
