Join the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) in the RP4 project on improving probabilistic weather forecasts for aviation. For air traffic control, it is important to get skillful forecasts for weather that may impact aviation, such as low visibility conditions and strong crosswinds. With your work you will contribute to keeping aviation safe at Amsterdam airport Schiphol and regional airports. Will this be your next challenge? Read on! How you contribute As part of the Data Science cluster in the R&D Weather and Climate Models department, we are driving the development, maintenance, and application of several cutting-edge machine learning (ML) models. Our focus is on advancing ML methods for post-processing of numerical weather prediction (NWP) model output, as well as developing data-driven weather models using machine learning. You will be working with large, detailed datasets and working on a project that has a direct impact on our weather forecasts. Your activities * You'll contribute to the development of post-processing modules to improve probabilistic weather forecasts for airports across the Netherlands and for platforms in the North Sea. This post-processing is based on our operational high-resolution NWP model Harmonie-Arome. * You will verify the developed applications and prepare them for use in KNMI's operational environment and in KNMI's visualization system GeoWeb. The results will be presented to stakeholders both within and outside KNMI and be written in reports. * Additionally, you are responsible for keeping other (pre-)operational post-processing modules up and running, and for updating them if necessary., We also understand that you might want to learn more about this position. Therefore, feel free to contact Maurice Schmeits, coordinator of the Data Science cluster, at +31 6 15 64 89 02. He will be happy to assist you!, * Individual Choice Budget (IKB): use this budget (the amount is 16.5% of your salary) for options such as repaying student loans, purchasing a (electric) bike with accessories, company fitness, making your home more sustainable, or other tax-friendly purposes * flexible leave arrangements, including care leave, parental leave, adoption leave, and foster care leave * our program provides support for visas and related matters, and language training (it does not include accommodation) ## Related Videos - [Introduction to Azure Machine Learning](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/368-introduction-to-azure-machine-learning) - [WeAreDevelopers LIVE - Node and Package Security](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2138-wearedevelopers-live-node-and-package-security) - [Containers in the cloud - State of the Art in 2022](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/410-containers-in-the-cloud-state-of-the-art-in-2022) - [Data Science in Retail](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/586-data-science-in-retail) - [Reliable scalability: How Amazon.com scales on AWS](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/983-reliable-scalability-how-amazon-com-scales-on-aws) - [Empowering Retail Through Applied Machine Learning](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/976-empowering-retail-through-applied-machine-learning) ## Related Articles - [Best Companies in the Netherlands: Top 25 Companies in 2023 ](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/193-best-companies-in-the-netherlands-top-25-companies-in-2023) - [How to land a developer job in Amsterdam](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/36-how-to-land-a-developer-job-in-amsterdam) - [Software Developer Salary in The Netherlands [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/217-software-developer-salary-in-the-netherlands-2023) - [The Netherlands – Europe’s powerhouse for software development?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/31-the-netherlands-europe-s-powerhouse-for-software-development) - [How to Find Tech Jobs in Amsterdam](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/279-how-to-find-tech-jobs-in-amsterdam) - [Average Salary in The Netherlands](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/272-average-salary-in-the-netherlands)
