They plan, size, and map the physical and logical pathways-both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP)-ensuring reliable, scalable, and low-latency fiber connectivity in and out of a data center., We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Fiber Design Engineer to architect and manage the physical fiber optic infrastructure for our mission-critical data centers. You will be responsible for end-to-end design, sizing, and spatial routing of high-density optical cables connecting the facility to the outside world, as well as the intricate distribution pathways within the white space., + Outside Plant (OSP) Routing: Design fiber ingress and egress paths, determining optimal trenching, boring, conduit sizing, and manhole placement to securely link the data center to external telecommunication rings. + Inside Plant (ISP) & Pathways: Map intra-facility pathways, including fiber duct banks, cable trays, raceways, and riser systems, ensuring compliance with bending radius and spatial constraints. + Capacity & Sizing Planning: Analyze bandwidth demands and calculate fiber counts, splice ratios, and splice enclosure placements to scale data center infrastructure effectively. + Documentation & Mapping: Develop detailed route maps, rack layouts, floor plans, and fiber block diagrams using CAD or GIS design software. + Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs align with data center industry standards (e.g., TIA, BICSI) and meet strict fire-safety and airflow regulations. + Budgeting & BOMs: Generate bills of materials (BOM), project cost estimates, and vendor specifications for procurement. ## Related Videos - [The Sustainability Race: AI's Promises, Pitfalls and Potential](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100155-the-sustainability-race-ai-s-promises-pitfalls-and-potential) - [Creating a routing app with Google Maps API from scratch](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/831-creating-a-routing-app-with-google-maps-api-from-scratch) - [Building the Nervous System of AI - Michael Kagan (NVIDIA)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2133-building-the-nervous-system-of-ai-michael-kagan-nvidia) - [A Technical Introduction to Bitcoin's 2nd Layer- The Lightning Network](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/15-a-technical-introduction-to-bitcoin-s-2nd-layer-the-lightning-network) - [How Your Bundle Size Affects The Climate](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/308-how-your-bundle-size-affects-the-climate) - [Reducing LLM Calls with Vector Search Patterns - Raphael De Lio (Redis)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1714-reducing-llm-calls-with-vector-search-patterns-raphael-de-lio-redis) ## Related Articles - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Best Paying Remote Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/255-best-paying-remote-jobs) - [Best Job Boards for Remote Work for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/290-best-job-boards-for-remote-work-for-developers) - [Mastering Remote Work: Tips for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/558-mastering-remote-work-tips-for-developers) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [The Best Job Search Websites of 2025](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/368-the-best-job-search-websites-of-2025)
