# Best Companies to Work For in Berlin: Top 14 Companies in 2023

When it comes to tech and startups, Berlin is one of the most significant cities in Europe. The [startup scene](/magazine/185-top-10-startups-in-berlin-in-2023) is vibrant and alive, full of global talent and investments. Berlin is also one of the top cities in Europe for tech workers and is also the home to huge German and international corporates. That being said, not all companies are created equal — if you're working in Berlin or thinking of making the move then you’re probably wondering which are the best companies in Berlin to work for.

It’s always going to be hard to quantify what “best” means or looks like when we discuss companies and the workplace. To make things simple, in this article, we’ll be looking at the [top companies in Berlin](/magazine/424-the-biggest-german-tech-companies) based on ratings from employees and ex-employees on [Glassdoor](https://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Award/Best-Places-to-Work-UK-LST_KQ0,22.htm). Obviously, a lot of great companies (and smaller startups) are absent from this list but overall, many of the companies mentioned in this list are also the biggest employers and the most popular amongst job seekers. This makes this list highly relevant to the majority of job seekers and tech professionals.

## Which are the best companies to work for in Berlin?

Before we dive into the top rankings, let’s compare this year’s list with the previous years. We’ll highlight relevant changes and how remote work, mass layoffs, and COVID have shaken things up. At the top of the list for Berlin is [McKinsey & Company](https://www.glassdoor.de/%C3%9Cberblick/Arbeit-bei-McKinsey-and-Company-EI_IE2893.11,31.htm), a consulting firm headquartered in Boston. Consultancies have won big this year, with many taking the top spots in [London](/magazine/187-best-companies-to-work-for-in-london-top-25-companies-in-2023) and the [UK](/magazine/186-best-companies-to-work-for-in-the-uk-top-25-companies-in-2023). McKinsey has not been in the top 25 for the last two years (2021-22), therefore it seems like 2022 was a great year for the team in Berlin.

[Salesforce](https://www.glassdoor.de/%C3%9Cberblick/Arbeit-bei-Salesforce-EI_IE11159.11,21.htm), which held the top spot in 2022, has dropped to second place, with one less point this year (dropping from 4.7 to 4.6). I don’t know if it’s the HR department in Salesforce that driving its success on Glassdoor or simply that it’s an awesome company. I lean towards the latter only because of the consistent rating across multiple markets (eg. London).

[SAP](https://www.glassdoor.de/%C3%9Cberblick/Arbeit-bei-SAP-EI_IE10471.11,14.htm) comes in third, moving up from fifth in 2022, managing to increase the overall employee perspective by two decimal points in a year (from 4.4 to 4.6). Tech companies were the big winners this year, with players like Apple, Nord Security, Microsoft, SAP, and Salesforce dominating other industries in Automotive and Pharmaceutical.

## Methodology

Glassdoor's ratings are based on employee reviews submitted within a year. Companies must have at least 20 reviews and 1,000 employees to be included in the ranking. Unfortunately, smaller companies are not included in these "best" employer lists, and companies that simply haven't been rated enough by their employees will be left out.

The employee ratings won’t always be reflective of a company's workplace. Especially with corporates you never really know what you’re stepping into. A lot of people are willing to overlook issues for that brand name on their resume. Plus ratings aren’t really anonymous, we all know HR meticulously monitors these pages, quickly figuring out who wrote what. I’d also imagine there are many ways to trick the system like flagging negative reviews to postpone them so they won’t be included in ratings until award season has passed. With all that in mind, here are the top 14 companies in Berlin.
