## The average salary for a frontend developer in Germany is €55,000

The median salary for a frontend developer in Germany is estimated to be **€61,100** with an average salary of **€55,000**. That's about **€4,580** per month or **€2,900** per month after tax (42%). The expected range for Junior to senior developers is between €50,000 and €71,000.

That being said, developers can far exceed this range depending on the company, their skills, and their experience. The [highest reported](/magazine/162-highest-paying-tech-companies-in-europe) frontend developer salaries in Germany are from US-based tech companies which have paid senior engineers [€120,000](https://techpays.eu/europe/germany/eng_web#) base salary plus bonuses and equity (totalling €134,000).

Working students at big tech companies have reported lower salaries starting at €30,000 — which is understandable given the lack of experience. ## Salary by role and technology

According to [StackOverflow](https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2022/), it’s estimated that Svelte developers earn the highest pay for frontend developers at €66,800. [React developers](/magazine/198-react-developer-salary-2023) can earn approximately €65,000 on average, while Vue.js developers earn the lowest at €56,400. ## Highest and lowest salaries reported

We’ve already put together a list of the [highest software developer salaries](/magazine/162-highest-paying-tech-companies-in-europe) but to quickly mention, base salaries of €120,000 have been [reported](https://techpays.eu/europe/germany/eng_web#). And when we include annual bonuses and equity, these developers can earn upwards of €201,000. So despite the overall average salary reported in Germany, there exists a percentage of frontend developers earning six-figures.

On the flip side, if you have very little hands-on experience you’ll probably be earning less than or equal to €30,000 per year. It’s common in German for graduates or soon-to-be graduates to get work experience with companies in Germany (essentially a paid internship). ## Salary by city

In Germany, Berlin and Munich are the biggest hubs for frontend developers and _generally_ offer the highest salaries for developers. The average salary is usually a little lower in Berlin compared with Munch given the cost of living and number of job opportunities. Surprisingly, frontend developers are earning the most in Frankfurt, according to Glassdoor data.
