# How to Monetise Your Code and Win a Share of $1 Million with Apify

## Understanding Actors

The playlist starts by explaining what Apify is and [how Actors work](https://apify.com/actors). An Actor is a cloud-hosted tool that runs tasks for users, such as scraping data or automating workflows, and it’s pretty important to get a good handle on this terminology, as you’ll hear it a lot.

This section also introduces the Apify Store and how users discover tools, because we get that the concept isn’t always clear right away.

The goal here is to understand the platform and the opportunity, before diving into any code.

## Monetising Code

The middle part of the playlist focuses on making an Actor usable by other people. This includes writing a clear README (undeniably important), explaining inputs and outputs, and setting expectations before anyone runs your tool.

This is about making sure an Actor behaves consistently, handles errors properly, and does what it promises.
