About This Session
Validating large-scale Kubernetes cluster migrations involves managing massive configuration state across hundreds of microservices. Traditional validation approaches such as manual manifest comparisons or native kubectl diff executions frequently fail in production. They either introduce significant noise through transient metadata variances (e.g., stochastic UUIDs and system-generated annotations) or completely miss critical structural deltas, leading to severe post-migration configuration drift. Learn how we built a robust Kubernetes testing framework on top of Kyverno Chainsaw to treat target clusters as true functional twins rather than approximations. This deep dive will showcase an automated, declarative three-phase validation pipeline designed for reliable cluster testing: 1. State Snapshotting: Extracting live, runtime states directly from the source environment to generate dynamic test fixtures. 2. Deterministic Sanitization & Overrides: Implementing AST-like filtering to scrub environmental noise and inject target-specific topology overrides (e.g., localized region configurations and ingress specifications). 3. Automated Assertion: Running regression test suites directly against the target control plane to evaluate resource limits, secret references, and critical annotations before changing DNS routes.
