Last week our VP of Developer Relations, Chris Heilmann, flew to Raleigh, North Carolina to present at All Things Open. An excellent event he had spoken at a few times in the past and this being the “Lucky 13” edition, he didn’t hesitate to come and present again.
All Things Open is slightly smaller than our event, but a well established staple of the open community and a chance for us to represent and to get some leads for our own upcoming first US edition in September in San Jose, California.
Chris gave two talks. One was the keynote X-rAI Specs, Submarines and Juice. This one covered the fate of a submarine that trusted brand new tech too much and two bank robbers that trusted their own cleverness too much. It concluded with what we can learn from these incidents and how their mistakes are mirrored in the way we use AI.
The second, longer talk, With AIs wide open went into more detail on a similar topic. It explained how many of the successes in AI these days are the opposite of open and ended with a rallying cry to prevent that. We’ve successfully defended the open web from corporate takeover decades ago and it is time to repeat that.
We also published all the resources covered in the talks.
It’s been an excellent experience and we managed to meet a lot of people who will come and speak at our events and will soon show up in Coffee With Developers. A big thank you to all involved in the three day event and all the side events. All Things Open showed us that inclusion, diversity, accessibility and especially open are still topics that people care about. And we will take a lot of that to bring to our events again in the future.
If you want to take part in our events, the call for papers are open:
