North Star is seeking a self-driven and motivated professional to become a member of our brokerage team located in the business campus at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester Maine. As a Capacity Solutions Manager, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing our carrier network to support customer service, cost control, lane coverage, and operational execution across our brokerage business.
The Capacity Solutions Manager will work closely with trucking companies, our sales team, brokerage operations, track and trace teams, and customers when needed. This position requires strong carrier negotiation skills, excellent problem-solving ability, high attention to detail, and a professional, customer-service-oriented approach., * Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with a reliable base of vetted trucking companies across the United States and Canada.
- Actively source new carrier capacity for existing lanes, new business opportunities, project freight, and changing customer needs.
- Build positive, professional, and long-term relationships with carriers while maintaining accountability for pricing, service, compliance, and communication standards.
- Use carrier sourcing and compliance tools, including Carrier Assure, Highway, Triumph Intelligence, and other company-approved systems, to identify, evaluate, vet, and manage carrier partners.
- Work with verified and approved carriers to onboard them onto the company-owned load board.
- Ensure carriers are properly vetted, compliant, and aligned with company expectations before being used on customer freight.
Rate Negotiation and Cost Management
- Negotiate carrier rates on active and prospective freight lanes to support competitive pricing, margin performance, and reliable service.
- Review and analyze carrier pay data to identify lanes where the company may have an opportunity to improve cost structure.
- Use KPI dashboards to identify "lanes of opportunity" where a more competitive carrier base can be built.
- Actively engage carriers on targeted lanes to improve pricing, secure capacity, and reduce cost volatility.
- Maintain awareness of current freight market conditions, regional capacity trends, seasonal changes, and pricing dynamics across the United States and Canada.
KPI Analysis and Performance Management
- Run, review, and analyze KPI dashboards related to carrier pay rates, carrier performance, and carrier on-time service.
- Monitor carrier on-time scores and service reliability to ensure the company is using high-quality transportation partners.
- Identify underperforming carriers and work with internal teams to determine whether corrective action, replacement capacity, or routing guide changes are needed.
- Use data-driven insights to support better carrier selection, lane strategy, customer pricing, and operational execution.
- Provide regular feedback and reporting to leadership on carrier cost trends, service performance, lane opportunities, and market conditions.
New Account and Lane Execution
- Play a key role in supporting new customer accounts and new freight opportunities.
- Perform cradle-to-grave brokerage execution on new lanes to ensure high service levels, strong communication, proper carrier selection, and successful onboarding of new business.
- Work closely with the sales and customer service teams to understand customer expectations, lane requirements, pricing needs, and service commitments.
- Help develop capacity strategies for new lanes before they are fully transitioned into standard brokerage operations.
- Remain flexible and adaptable to support new accounts, new freight types, special projects, or changing customer requirements.
RFP and Lane Management
- Organize and manage carrier-facing RFPs and requests for pricing.
- Maintain an accurate and current active lane list that can be distributed to carriers for pricing and capacity feedback.
- Collect, review, and organize carrier quotes to support lane pricing, routing guide development, and customer opportunities.
- Manage and update routing guides within Turvo as carriers provide pricing, availability, service feedback, and capacity commitments.
- Work with internal teams to ensure routing guides are practical, competitive, and aligned with customer service requirements.
Systems Maintenance
- Learn and become highly proficient in the company's TMS system, Turvo.
- Use Turvo to manage routing guides, lane data, carrier feedback, pricing records, and operational workflows.
- Use company-approved carrier sourcing, vetting, compliance, and intelligence tools to support informed carrier selection and risk management.
- Maintain accurate records of carrier pricing, lane commitments, performance feedback, and communication history.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Supply chain?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, A critical part of this role will be using data, carrier relationships, and market knowledge to identify opportunities to improve carrier costs, service performance, and network reliability. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of supply chain experience, preferably in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or carrier management., * Experience working directly with trucking companies, freight brokers, dispatchers, carrier sales teams, or transportation operations teams.

- Comfortable working in an in-office, Monday through Friday environment., * At least 3 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, carrier sales, carrier management, or a related field., * Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Finance, Operations Management, Economics, or a related field., * Carrier relationship management.
