IT Director
LHB is seeking a strategic, hands-on, and customer focused Director to lead the technological functions within our architecture and engineering operations. This is a hybrid position based in our Duluth or Minneapolis locations. This highly impactful role is responsible for developing and executing a technology strategy that supports digital transformation, business growth, design efficiency, and operational continuity. The Director will oversee infrastructure, cybersecurity, and all technology services across the organization-ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performance systems that meet the unique demands of a design-driven environment.
This role is approximately 50% strategic leadership and 50% operations/technical oversight. We are looking for a driven person willing to take ownership and grow the department from a supporting role to an integrated partner in design workflows, business modernization, and company-wide innovation. Position Summary
The responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to:
Technology Leadership
Collaborate with leadership to define company and department technology objectives, enforce policies, and ensure alignment with business priorities
Lead the development and execution of LHB's strategic technology plans to support organizational goals and operational efficiency
Conduct research and cost benefit analysis to assess and recommend hardware/software solutions aligned with business strategy
Lead the evaluation and implementation of AI tools that enhance design workflows, automation, and business operations
Team Management
Lead and mentor IT staff, fostering a collaborative and service-oriented culture
Support professional development and ongoing training of the IT team
Manage technology projects-defining key actions, responsibilities, budgets, and deadlines.
Coordinate and deliver training and development for technical proficiency in technology across departments.
Infrastructure, Systems, and Software Management
Oversee the maintenance and optimization of technology infrastructure, including network systems, communications, teleconferencing systems, servers and cloud platforms, ensuring systems are current, effective, compliant, and accessible to all users.
Work with software managers to develop a firm-wide software strategy, manage software implementation, deployments, updates and renewals, and ensure overall software performance.
Assist with integration of enterprise ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Vantagepoint, UKG, Newforma, Microsoft365).
Collaborate with in-house BIM and CAD Managers to ensure high functionality and performance of applicable design software/tools (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Bentley, ArcGIS, Bluebeam). Manage CAD/BIM software deployments and updates
Evaluate emerging technologies and present recommendations to leadership
Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained on all systems.
Develop and maintain IT policies and procedures.
Security and Compliance
Work with LHB's Managed Service Provider to ensure compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory standards, including NIST, CMMC, and industry-specific frameworks.
Maintain disaster recovery and information security protocols to safeguard assets.
Work with LHB's Managed Service Provider to conduct regular audits and risk assessments
Work with LHB's Managed Service Provider to maintain appropriate backup systems to ensure business continuity in the event of disruptions to our systems and offices
Vendor and Budget Oversight
Manage relationships with external managed service providers and vendors and engage as needed ensure service level expectations are met
Develop and manage technology budgets, forecast resource needs, and oversee expenditure.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business/Data Analytics, Engineering or related field.
7+ years of IT experience
2+ years supervisory experience.
Periodic travel between LHB office locations
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience with IT operations, system administration, system engineering, software/web development, or business/data analytics within architecture, engineering, construction, or design focused firm.
Technical expertise in design software (Revit, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Bluebeam), ERP systems, Windows Server OS, network infrastructure, and communication systems., Bachelor Degree
Benefits & conditions
This position's anticipated base salary range is $137,000 - $168,000 This position is eligible for year-end bonuses. Offer will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
