Job description

  • Work as a Senior IT Security specialist within the council's ICT team
  • Protect council systems, networks, and data from cyber threats and security risks
  • Monitor systems to detect suspicious activity and respond to security incidents
  • Investigate security breaches and take action to reduce risk and prevent recurrence
  • Support the implementation of cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures
  • Ensure systems are secure and compliant with legal, regulatory, and council requirements
  • Work with IT teams to improve security across all digital services
  • Carry out regular security checks, audits, and vulnerability assessments
  • Help design and improve secure IT systems and infrastructure
  • Provide expert advice on cybersecurity issues to staff and management
  • Support incident response planning and business continuity arrangements
  • Maintain accurate records of security incidents and actions taken
  • Stay updated on new cyber threats and recommend improvements
  • Support user awareness training to reduce security risks caused by human error

Requirements

Do you have experience in Network security?, * Strong experience in cyber security or IT security roles

  • Good knowledge of cyber threats, risks, and how to prevent them
  • Experience monitoring systems and handling security incidents
  • Ability to carry out vulnerability assessments and security checks
  • Experience working with IT teams in a complex organisation (public sector experience is a plus)
  • Strong understanding of security policies, standards, and compliance requirements

Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity tools, systems, and best practices
  • Understanding of network security, data protection, and system hardening
  • Awareness of incident response and disaster recovery processes

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, especially during security incidents
  • Good communication skills to explain technical issues clearly
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and strong focus on risk reduction
  • Ability to advise and support non-technical staff on security matters, * Senior IT Security specialist : 2 years (required)
  • cyber security or IT security: 2 years (required)
