Job description

This position involves responsibility for assisting the LAN/WAN System Administrator and/or administrators with the day-to-day operation of the LAN/WAN (Network) and its network components. Employee helps with diagnosis and repair problems related to phones, computer equipment, network components, cloud systems, and peripherals such as printers and security equipment. Assists with the implementation and upgrading of software and hardware for local area networks and microcomputers. Employee is responsible for the operation of all networked equipment as well as personal computer software, hardware, and network connectivity. Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor. Supervision may be exercised as needed but is not a primary function of this job. Performs related work as required.

PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots software, cloud subscriptions and hardware (including upgrades) on LAN/WAN/Cloud, workstations, and stand-alone personal computers for the district;
  • Operates, monitors, implements computer systems, networks, servers, cloud-based systems, infrastructure, and peripheral devices;
  • Troubleshoots and repairs problems with computer equipment, network infrastructure, cloud-based systems, access and peripherals;
  • Runs diagnostic software programs to ensure operational integrity and the security of equipment and network systems;
  • Installs, checks, and tests new equipment for reliability, security and network compatibility;
  • Assists with and implements image systems, network controls, user management, access policies, and mass duplication of network software;
  • Assists with and implements cyber security protocols, maintains logs, security platforms and responds as necessary;
  • Acts as LAN/WAN System Administrator, as needed.

Requirements

A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of personal computers, network connected peripheral, or other network and infrastructure equipment; OR

B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with an associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or closely related field and four (4) years of the above experience; OR

C. Completion of a course in technical computer support, implementation and management from a recognized technical business or training school and four (4) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of microcomputer systems; OR

D. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma including, or supplemented by, computer/network training and six (6) years of experience in the implementation, support and maintenance of microcomputer network systems; OR

E. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits "A", "B", "C" and "D" above.
