Job description
The Director of Web Strategy is a strategic, hands-on leader responsible for the vision, architecture, performance, and continuous evolution of Missouri S&T's web ecosystem. This role bridges strategy and delivery, connecting institutional priorities, audience needs, technology, accessibility, and content strategy to create high-performing, user-centered digital experiences that drive awareness, engagement, and conversion., Web Strategy & Governance
- Lead the strategic vision for Missouri S&T's web ecosystem, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, brand strategy, and audience needs
- Establish and enforce governance models, standards, and best practices across web architecture, design systems, content structure, accessibility, and performance
- Balance central oversight with distributed publishing needs - enabling consistency while empowering campus partners to serve their audiences effectively
Web Architecture, Development & Execution
- Provide both strategic leadership and direct hands-on contribution to web development, architecture decisions, and complex implementations
- Oversee the development, maintenance, and optimization of Missouri S&T's primary websites, templates, and supporting platforms
- Evaluate and guide adoption of CMS platforms, integrations, hosting environments, and third-party tools - making principled decisions that serve long-term institutional needs
User Experience & Audience-Centered Design
- Champion user-centered design and information architecture grounded in research, analytics, and usability testing
- Translate audience needs and behaviors into intuitive navigation, clear pathways, and meaningful digital journeys
- Partner closely with Brand Marketing, Creative Services, and Enrollment teams to align UX, messaging, and conversion goals across the web presence
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop web developers, UX professionals, and digital specialists - setting clear direction while actively supporting day-to-day execution
- Build internal capacity by modeling best practices, providing technical leadership, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement
- Establish clear priorities, workflows, and delivery expectations that support sustainable, high-quality work at scale
Collaboration & Integration
- Collaborate with Brand Marketing, Communications, Creative Services, Enrollment, Advancement, IT, and academic partners to align web strategy with broader marketing and engagement efforts
- Serve as a strategic advisor and technical partner, helping campus units translate their needs into effective, on-brand web solutions
- Coordinate with IT and security teams to ensure compliance with institutional standards, data governance policies, and regulatory requirements
Analytics, Performance & Optimization
- Oversee web analytics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks that assess performance against institutional goals
- Use data to drive ongoing optimization of site structure, content placement, accessibility, and technical performance
- Ensure insights lead to action- not just documentation
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in digital media, computer science, information systems, or a related field
- Prior experience in higher education
Benefits & conditions
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $81,744-$110,000 annually.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
