Job description

We're looking for a proactive and customer-focused Field Technician to provide on-site IT support to clients across Sussex. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, building strong customer relationships and solving technical challenges in a varied, field-based role.

You'll become the trusted IT contact for a portfolio of clients, delivering both planned maintenance and responsive technical support to help ensure staff and have reliable, secure technology every day.

The Role

As a Field Technician, you'll manage a portfolio of up to 15 clients, typically visiting up to three sites each day. You'll provide hands-on technical support, resolve hardware and software issues, advise schools on future IT improvements and work closely clients' staff to deliver an outstanding service.

When you're not visiting customer sites, you'll work alongside the Remote Operations Team from our Lancing office, providing remote support and collaborating on more complex technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of schools, providing both proactive maintenance and reactive support.
  • Carry out up to three on-site visits each day across Sussex.
  • Build strong relationships with clients.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and network issues.
  • Advise customers on equipment lifecycle planning, upgrades and IT improvements.
  • Deliver remote support when office-based.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and update the service desk ticketing system.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to resolve complex technical issues.

Requirements

You'll enjoy working directly with customers, be organised enough to manage your own schedule and take pride in delivering excellent service.

You'll also have experience of:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 and 11
  • Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022
  • Active Directory administration, including Group Policy
  • Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams and SharePoint
  • macOS and ChromeOS support
  • Network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs and Wi-Fi)
  • Hardware diagnostics, repairs and upgrades
  • Operating system installation and device imaging
  • General desktop and application support

Experience with software such as Arbor or Bromcom would be advantageous but isn't essential, as full training will be provided.
