Job description

Make an impact by using your expertise to protect our country from threats., GDIT is seeking a Systems Engineer to support secured communications for FEMA's Office of National Continuity Programs in Northern Virginia. The role will be responsible for a wide variety of telecommunications platforms.

Candidate must be local to the DMV and able to work onsite.

Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Manage the configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and deployment of Cisco networking equipment, to include Cisco integrated services routers, Cisco aggregation services routers, and Cisco switches.

  • Plan, configure, test, and implement new network architecture elements associated with LAN/WAN expansion and existing customer base augmentation.

  • Provide configuration and administration support for data center assets.

  • Manage inventory control documents and life cycle maintenance schedules associated with operational equipment.

  • Provide administration, maintenance, operations, and customer support to Microsoft Windows workstations, VOIP phone, and video teleconferencing (VTC) equipment.

  • Receive, transport, load, and configure communications security (COMSEC) keying material for secure communications equipment.

  • Provide feedback and guidance in developing solutions to unique mission requirements involving replacement, upgrades, and augmentations to existing communications capabilities.

  • Document standard operating procedures, routine tasks, updates to systems information in manuals, diagrams, reports, and flow charts.

  • Assist directly in logistics operations pertaining to acquisition, receipt, relocation, and deployment of equipment.

Requirements

  • Firm grasp of IP routing and switching technologies with special emphasis on carrier ethernet architecture, 802.1 Q-in-Q switching, and multiprotocol label switching/dense wavelength division multiplexing (MPLS/DWDM) transport capabilities.
  • Firm understanding of OSPF routing propagation and spanning-tree switching technology.
  • Firm understanding of network protocols such as ICMP, IGP, BGP, FTP, SSH, DNS, SRTP, SIP, and DHCP.
  • Understanding of authentication technologies such as RADIUS and TACACS+
  • Familiar with Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, Windows active directory, and Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM).
  • Knowledge of site design and equipment integration based on established deployment operating procedures and requirements.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted standards pertaining to technical writing/documentation associated with operational requirements documents, standard operating procedures, and quick reference guides.
  • Knowledge of administration of ESXi hosts and VMware virtual environments.
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex communications problems using specialized testing equipment such as spectrum analyzers, optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR), bit error rate testers, network traffic analyzers, and packet inspection equipment.
  • Knowledge of general principles of electrical circuits, fabricating and splicing of electrical connectors, and testing electronic equipment using digital multimeters.
  • Understanding of solutions procurement process to include assessment of alternatives, requirements analysis, budget restrictions, and implementation constraints., * Available for travel within the continental United States for periods of time up to two weeks in support of mission activities.
  • Possesses an active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance and possesses eligibility requirements to access classified information.
  • Required certifications: CCNA must be obtained within 120 days of start date.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to articulate complex mission information to members of U.S. Government's leadership.
  • Be capable of establishing and cultivating friendly relationships with partner agency personnel, third party equipment providers, and sibling programs internal to FEMA.
  • Must be self-sufficient and capable of maintaining required operational tempo when working autonomously or with minimal supervision.
  • Work location will be Bluemont, VA with limited travel to Washington, D.C. and offices in the DMV area. Work hours are flexible, but contract staff must meet minimal requirements on a weekly basis. CONUS travel is at the request of the customer and may not be flexible under some circumstances.

(part of General Dynamics) 3.73.7 out of 5 stars Bluemont, VA Hybrid work $85,000 - $115,000 a year, The likely salary range for this position is $85,000 - $115,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
