As a Laboratory Accessioner, you will play a critical role in ensuring patient specimens are received, processed, and documented accurately so testing can begin promptly while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Receive, unpack, inspect, and accession incoming laboratory specimens.
- Accurately enter patient demographics, physician information, insurance details, and test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Verify specimen integrity and ensure all required documentation accompanies each sample.
- Process specimens and prepare them for laboratory testing according to established procedures.
- Ensure all necessary information is complete so laboratory personnel can begin testing without delay.
- Manage the specimen workflow from arrival through resulting while maintaining accurate chain-of-custody documentation.
- Monitor and track specimen status to ensure timely processing and reporting.
- Communicate professionally with physician offices, healthcare facilities, and patients regarding specimen requirements, missing information, and access to laboratory results.
- Manage incoming and outgoing phone calls while providing exceptional customer service.
- Monitor Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams throughout each workday, promptly responding to emails, messages, and assigned tasks.
- Complete and follow up on tasks assigned through Outlook and Teams, ensuring timely communication and resolution of outstanding items.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory personnel to resolve discrepancies quickly and efficiently.
- Maintain organized records while complying with HIPAA and all laboratory quality standards.
- Perform additional administrative and laboratory support duties as assigned.
Requirements
We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable, and motivated Part-Time Data Entry Accessioner to join our laboratory team. The ideal candidate will have prior laboratory accessioning experience and thrive in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, organization, and exceptional communication are essential., * Minimum 3 years of laboratory accessioning experience required.
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, reference laboratory, or medical diagnostic laboratory is required.
- Strong data entry skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
- Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling, medical terminology, and accessioning procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
- Professional demeanor with outstanding customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams, with the ability to manage daily communications and assigned tasks effectively.
- Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in a healthcare or laboratory-related field preferred.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
- Must consistently monitor and respond to Outlook emails, Microsoft Teams messages, and assigned tasks on a daily basis.
- Must be willing to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
