Job description

The Solutions Engineer I - Imaging Optics serves as a technical liaison between managed Imaging customers, internal sales teams, and Edmund Optics' global manufacturing and assembly sites for custom or modified optical components and imaging assemblies. This role provides technical sales support for managed and key unmanaged accounts, with a primary focus on evaluating imaging-related RFQs, confirming technical and business feasibility, supporting market-competitive pricing, and helping close custom imaging opportunities.

Working under established guidelines and direction, the Solutions Engineer I reviews customer requirements, coordinates with relevant internal stakeholders, and helps ensure that proposed solutions align with customer needs, manufacturing and assembly capabilities, quality requirements, and business objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and grow engineer-to-engineer relationships at managed and key unmanaged Imaging customer accounts. Answer customer technical questions related to optical components, imaging systems, custom assemblies, and application-specific requirements in support of sales opportunities.
  • Facilitate the custom sales process for Imaging-related opportunities from both managed and unmanaged accounts, including technical review of incoming requests for completeness, feasibility, manufacturability, and alignment with Edmund Optics' global manufacturing and assembly capabilities.
  • Review customer purchase orders and terms and conditions for technical, testing, documentation, and quality requirements, coordinating with internal stakeholders as needed to ensure requirements are understood and met.
  • Recognize and communicate significant Imaging sales opportunities to Inside Sales, Outside Sales, Imaging Business Line, and any other relevant colleagues.
  • Generate formal price quotations for custom and modified optical components, and imaging assemblies. Ensure quoted pricing follows published guidelines, supports corporate gross margin goals, and remains market competitive.
  • Work closely with other Solutions Engineers, Product Line Managers, and global manufacturing and assembly sites to stay current with both standard catalog imaging offerings and custom imaging-related capabilities.
  • Support customer discussions involving imaging system requirements, including optical performance, mechanical integration, camera compatibility, environmental considerations, testing expectations, and documentation needs.
  • Assist at industry tradeshows up to 2-3 times per year and visit customers with an Outside Sales Manager to develop customer contacts, better understand customer applications, and identify significant Imaging and custom assembly sales opportunities.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
