Job description

Brief Description of Position: Under the supervision of the site administrator and with direction from the classroom teachers, the instructional computer specialist assists in the instruction of students in computer use and online citizenship., Examples of duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicates with teachers about students' needs, abilities and progress.
  • Assists with preparation and scheduling of the computer lab.
  • Assists with preparation of instructional materials.
  • Instructs and directs student and parent volunteers.
  • May assist with administration of student tests.
  • Works with G.A.T.E. students.
  • Works with students, individually and in groups.
  • Instructs students in use of software and resource materials.
  • Maintains and updates files and records.
  • Maintains student files and assists with state reports.
  • Assists with review and correction of student work.
  • Assists with inclusion of students with special education needs.
  • Assists with implementation of the district/site technology standards.
  • Maintains an attractive and appropriate classroom environment.
  • May attend conferences, in-services and regular staff meetings.
  • Communicates with teacher for ideas, feedback and suggestions and reports student's progress.
  • Advises and assists substitute teachers in the computer lab.
  • Ensures that lab computers are in proper working condition through regular maintenance.
  • Initiates repairs, work order for lab equipment through district technology office.
  • Performs duties in related areas as required.

Must Be Able To:

  • Work effectively and efficiently with all levels of District personnel, students, parents and the public.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and organizational tasks and set priorities.
  • Analyze and diagnose hardware and software problems and develop a systematic plan for solution within the lab.
  • Work effectively without close supervision.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisor and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Present a positive image of the District and its operation to the public.
  • Direct and train volunteers and student aides.

Requirements

  1. Previous Experience: One year of computer related experience, preferably in a school setting.
  2. Education: Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth grade supplemented by or including courses in computer technology., * Current computer technology including hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Preventive maintenance, parts and repair procedures for computer systems.
  • Basic terminology and vocabulary related to computers and their use
  • Software and curriculum subject matter as they apply to use of resource materials and computer in the labs.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and composition.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to bend, stoop, reach and lift above shoulder height.
  • Able to stand, walk and sustain physical activity for at least 6.0 hours.
  • Able to work in a variety of buildings, facilities and outdoor environments with varying degrees of temperature and weather conditions.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects.

  • Dental insurance, Salary: $3,829.98 - $4,886.41 per month, dependent on experience, Work Calendar: 6.0 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with a work calendar of school year (10 months) only. The first day of service coincides with the first day for students, which is Thursday, August 13, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 3, 2027. A six-month probationary period must be passed before a new classified employee becomes permanent with the District.

Salary: Placement on classified salary range 37 is dependent on experience as an instructional computer specialist in similar educational settings. The monthly salary ranges from $3,829.98 - $4,886.41 per month.

Benefits: An excellent benefits package is offered to employees who work 50% or more of a full-time position, with the District contributing up to $15,930 per year per employee. Premiums paid by a part-time employee are pro-rated based on the employee's full-time equivalent (FTE) percentage.
