Job description

The Development & Events Manager plays a key role in advancing DVPI's mission. This position oversees operations of the volunteer program and collaborates with the Director of Fund Development to plan and execute fundraising events. The role also creates and manages community-facing marketing materials that increase awareness, engage new supporters, and strengthen DVPI's presence and impact throughout the community.

Essential Functions

Volunteer Program

· Design, promote, implement, and manage volunteer program; identify goals and objectives as related to volunteers

· Build and maintain strong relationships with staff to regularly assess volunteer needs, identify relevant volunteer roles, and assess program effectiveness

· Oversee the background check process, ensuring compliance for all individual volunteers

· Schedule, prepare, and track pre-service and in-service training, in person or via video

· Supervise volunteer activities and provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure a positive experience for staff and volunteers

· Design and manage the volunteer recognition and stewardship program, including collateral materials to thank, retain, and further engage individual volunteers and groups

Events and Campaigns

· Solicit and engage volunteers to assist with events; organize and facilitate committees, monitor action items, and engage committee members to ensure successful event outcomes

· Coordinate logistics related to scheduling, venue selection, contracts with event vendors, purchasing, solicitation of in-kind donors, marketing, day-of setup and implementation; negotiate vendor contracts

· Work with marketing partners to advertise and create materials for events and campaigns

· Provide an exceptional volunteer and event attendee experience to help build lasting relationships and meet development goals and strategic imperatives

· Manage event budgets and make expenditure decisions within established parameters

In-Kind Donations

· Connect with donors to process donations and answer questions about gifts

· Liaise with staff to assess in-kind needs and communicate those needs to the public

· Assign and supervise volunteers to process gifts

· Ensure that gifts are inventoried, processed, and properly acknowledged

Marketing

· Prepares/designs and distributes general marketing assets for digital media, email, and print

Other Functions

· Complete in-service training and professional development activities mandated by DVPI and its funders

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience in event planning, volunteer management, and/or marketing

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

· Maintain confidentiality of volunteer and donor information and donation records

· Able to work a flexible schedule involving some evening or weekend hours to meet program needs

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily in an indoor environment. Involves risks or discomforts that require safety precautions typical of an office setting, including the need for safe workplace practices, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations. A limited number of seasonal activities take place outdoors.

  • Performing the daily duties of this job requires seeing, hearing, reading, writing, and verbally communicating in English; operating a computer and standard office equipment; climbing stairs, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching; occasional climbing, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 25 pounds and carrying them distances of up to 100 ft., * How many years of experience do you have coordinating fundraising events?
