Job description

SoftWorthy develops serious-gaming-based education and training simulators. This role will build and maintain the infrastructure supporting both software development and hosted game services.

We are seeking an Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer to design, deploy, configure, secure, and document the company's centralized software development and game hosting infrastructure.

The individual will be responsible for implementing a virtualized server environment, configuring development and production virtual machines, establishing secure hybrid development workflows, deploying containerized infrastructure services, and implementing monitoring, cybersecurity, backup, and CI/CD systems, as well as configuring developer desktop workstations for secure hybrid access.

This role will initially focus on establishing the core infrastructure and development platform, with ongoing responsibilities centered on maintenance, automation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and optimize the server and the virtualization platform.

  • Create, configure, and maintain virtual machines for infrastructure services, storage, game hosting, and software development.

  • Configure secure networking, firewalls, VPN/Zero-Trust networking, remote access, and role-based access controls.

  • Deploy and configure infrastructure software and related services.

  • Configure developer desktop workstations to support secure hybrid work.

  • Establish standardized development environments.

  • Configure source control, automated build pipelines, CI/CD workflows, deployment automation, and artifact management.

  • Implement centralized observability, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards for both development and production environments.

  • Configure automated backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.

  • Configure TLS certificates, reverse proxy services, DNS, authentication, and supporting infrastructure services.

  • Develop installation guides, architecture documentation, operational procedures, and system administration documentation.

  • Test, validate, troubleshoot, and optimize the complete infrastructure before production deployment.

  • Communicate implementation progress, technical recommendations, and infrastructure improvements with the project team., This is a 1099 independent contractor position with flexible scheduling.

Requirements

Professional or equivalent hands-on experience administering Linux systems, virtualization platforms, or DevOps infrastructure.

  • Experience deploying and administering virtualization platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of Linux server administration, networking, storage management, and virtualization.

  • Experience deploying and administering database management and version control software, and reverse proxy services.

  • Experience with container platforms, or similar technologies.

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and configuration management.

  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability platforms, or similar technologies.

  • Experience implementing cybersecurity best practices including firewalls, endpoint security, VPN or Zero-Trust networking, and vulnerability management.

  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery strategies, including virtual machine backups, database backups, and off-site replication.

  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
