The role ensures high availability, performance, and security of database platforms supporting cloud-native and modernized applications.The Cloud DBA works closely with Cloud Architects, DevOps engineers, and application teams to ensure database solutions align with cloud best practices, scalability requirements, and operational standards.Roles and responsibilities:Lead the design, configuration, and optimization of managed cloud databases (e.g., Cloud SQL, Amazon RDS, Azure SQL) as well as traditional RDBMS in Cloud Environment with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server, as well as other platforms like Oracle, MySQL, and/or PostgreSQL.Architect and implement DB clustering, multi-region failover, and high availability (HA) / disaster recovery (DR) strategies.Support database migration and modernization initiatives from on-premise to cloud platformsExecute heterogeneous DB migrations utilizing native and third-party cloud migration tools.Perform schema migration and refactoring of legacy databases to ensure cloud-native compatibility and optimized storage performance.Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to support database architecture, scalability, and integration in cloud or hybrid environmentscloud environments.Manage cloud-native backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data protection and minimal downtime.Enforce database governance, security hardening, access control, encryption, and auditing.Support presales, readiness assessments, and architectural discussions by providing expert input on database modernization strategies.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field4+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, with increasing levels of responsibilityExpert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, along with a strong understanding of at least one other major RDBMS platform (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).Proven experience with backup and recovery, HA/DR design, and replication strategiesIn-depth understanding of database security, access control, and compliance best practices.Ability to handle complex database environments with multiple integrations and high transaction volume.Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and lead technical teamsPreferred Qualifications:Certifications in AWS, Azure, or GCP database services, as well as Microsoft database services.Experience with cloud-native databases and managed services such as Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQLFamiliarity with NoSQL and distributed databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis)Experience working in DevOps or SRE environments, integrating databases into CI/CD pipelinesScripting or automation experience in Python, PowerShell, Shell, or similarFamiliarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, especially for deploying and managing cloud database servicesExperience with Kubernetes-based deployments for containerized databasesKnowledge of data privacy regulations and compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, ..)Knowledge of local and international compliance and regulatory frameworks (NCA, SAMA, ISO *****)

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, with increasing levels of responsibility Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, along with a strong understanding of at least one other major RDBMS platform (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL). Proven experience with backup and recovery, HA/DR design, and replication strategies In-depth understanding of database security, access control, and compliance best practices. Ability to handle complex database environments with multiple integrations and high transaction volume. Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and lead technical teams

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications in AWS, Azure, or GCP database services, as well as Microsoft database services. Experience with cloud-native databases and managed services such as Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL Familiarity with NoSQL and distributed databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis) Experience working in DevOps or SRE environments, integrating databases into CI/CD pipelines Scripting or automation experience in Python, PowerShell, Shell, or similar Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, especially for deploying and managing cloud database services Experience with Kubernetes-based deployments for containerized databases Knowledge of data privacy regulations and compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, ..)
