Job description
We're looking for an experienced Magento Developer to join our team on a hybrid basis, with three days per week based in our Stoke-on-Trent office. Candidates must be within a commutable distance of Stoke-on-Trent.
You'll work across a portfolio of Magento 2 stores, contributing to new feature development, performance optimisation, third-party integrations, and day-to-day platform support alongside our development team., * Design, build, and maintain custom modules and extensions on Magento 2 (Adobe Commerce/Open Source)
- Diagnose and resolve performance, functionality, and integration issues across live storefronts
- Integrate Magento with third-party systems (ERP, PIM, payment gateways, logistics, marketing tools) via APIs
- Implement and customise themes, layouts, and front-end templates
- Write clean, well-documented, testable PHP code following Magento best practice and coding standards
- Use Claude and other AI-assisted development tools to speed up coding, debugging, and documentation
- Participate in code reviews, deployments, and release management
- Work closely with project managers, designers, and QA to deliver projects on time and to spec
- Contribute to technical scoping and estimation for new features and client requests
- Keep up to date with Magento releases, security patches, and ecosystem changes
Requirements
- Proven commercial experience developing on Magento 2 (minimum 3 years)
- Strong PHP development skills (PHP 7.4/8+), including OOP principles and design patterns
- Solid understanding of Magento's architecture: modules, dependency injection, plugins, observers, EAV
- Experience with MySQL, including query optimisation
- Front-end experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Knockout.js, Alpine.js, and Tailwind CSS
- Experience with version control (Git) and working in agile/sprint-based teams
- Familiarity with RESTful/GraphQL API integrations
- Understanding of Magento performance tools (Varnish, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch)
- Comfortable using AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude) as part of the development workflow
- Based within a commutable distance of Stoke-on-Trent, able to work in-office 3 days per week
Desirable Skills
- Adobe Commerce (Magento Commerce) experience
- Experience with hyvä themes
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and cloud hosting (AWS, Adobe Commerce Cloud)
- Magento certification(s)
- Experience with Docker/containerised local development environments
- Exposure to other e-commerce platforms (Shopify, BigCommerce) is a plus
