Job description
We are seeking a Mid-Level Agile (SAFe) Infrastructure Engineer to maintain, optimize, and support our VMware and NetApp enterprise environment. In this role, you will manage physical hardware, vSphere compute, software-defined networking (NSX), NetApp ONTAP storage, and VMware Horizon VDI.
UNLEADH YOUR POTENTIAL
Working within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), you will collaborate daily with your Agile team to deliver infrastructure stories, automate routine tasks, and ensure high system availability. For delivery into a secure customer environment. This is a 4-5 days per week, on-site role, requiring a DV and open to UK nationals only.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Agile & SAFe Team Participation
- Contribute to PI Planning: Participate in Program Increment (PI) planning to break down features into team stories and provide accurate point estimations.
- Execute Sprint Activities: Actively engage in daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and team retrospectives.
- Manage Team Backlog: Maintain your assigned backlog items in Jira/Azure DevOps, ensuring status, technical blockers, and updates are visible.
- Deliver System Demos: Demonstrate completed infrastructure increments to the team and stakeholders at the end of each sprint.
VMware & NSX Support
- Administer VMware NSX: Maintain software-defined networking components, including basic virtual routing configurations, security groups, and micro-segmentation policies.
- Manage vSphere Environment: Handle day-to-day operations of ESXi hosts and vCenter, including provisioning virtual machines, monitoring cluster resources, and lifecycle patching.
NetApp Storage & Hardware Operations
- Manage NetApp ONTAP: Administer NetApp storage systems, including provisioning volumes, managing aggregates, configuration of protocols (NFS, iSCSI, SMB), and monitoring storage capacity.
- Data Protection: Maintain storage efficiency and data protection workflows using NetApp Snapshot, SnapMirror, and SnapVault technologies.
- Support Physical Hardware: Assist with data centre tasks, including racking servers, monitoring blade systems, and replacing faulty hardware components.
VMware Horizon VDI Operations
- Maintain Horizon VDI: Manage virtual desktop pools, assign user entitlements, and optimize master golden images for desktop performance.
- Troubleshoot User Experience: Resolve mid-level technical escalations regarding Horizon client connectivity, App Volumes, and Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) user profiles.
Automation & Maintenance
- Apply Scripting & Automation: Utilize existing PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform scripts to automate routine VMware provisioning and NetApp storage tasks.
- Execute Lifecycle Management: Perform regular backups, proactive system health monitoring, and patch management across physical and virtual systems.
Requirements
Technical Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- VMware Ecosystem: 2-4 years of hands-on experience administering VMware vSphere, VMware NSX, and VMware Horizon.
- NetApp Storage: Proven experience managing NetApp storage systems running ONTAP.
- Hardware: Experience handling enterprise server hardware (e.g., Cisco UCS, Dell PowerEdge, or HPE ProLiant).
- Basic Automation: Ability to read, modify, and run scripts using PowerCLI, PowerShell, or Ansible.
- Certifications (Preferred): VCP-DCV (Data Center Virtualization), VCP-NV (Network Virtualization), NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA), or equivalent credentials.
Agile & Framework Requirements
- SAFe Experience: 1+ years working within a Scaled Agile or Scrum team environment.
- Agile Tooling: Daily proficiency tracking work in Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps.
- Certifications (Preferred): Certified SAFe Practitioner (SP) or Scrum Certified.
Soft Skills
- Team Player: Eagerness to collaborate with cross-functional team members to achieve sprint goals.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to independently diagnose and fix mid-level technical issues.
