Job description
Sesame's voice companion ships on iOS and Android, and we release often. We're growing the mobile quality team and hiring our first dedicated automation engineer for the apps. The point of the role is simple: better coverage, reliable failure triage, and higher-quality releases on a regular cadence. You'll decide how we automate mobile testing, help inform whether a release is ready to ship, and partner across disciplines to deliver the best product experience., * Build and own the iOS and Android test automation that runs in our CI.
- Deliver a real quality signal on nightly, weekly, and release builds: what runs as a quick sanity check, what runs as deeper regression, and what we still test by hand. Keep iOS and Android at parity.
- Automate what people actually do in the app (onboarding, text and voice chats, payments, notifications, settings) and check that the result is right, not just that the screen showed up.
- When something fails, write it up so an engineer can fix it without reproducing it from scratch.
- Help triage bugs automatically, and tell app, backend, OS, device, network, and test-harness problems apart.
- Improve robustness and reliability: better isolation, stable test data, stronger checks, and retries where they make sense.
- Keep the dashboard, TestRail, known issues, and release notes in sync so the team sees the real risk before we ship.
- Work with the app engineers to move checks that belong in unit or integration tests down to that layer.
Requirements
- 7-8 years in software QA / test engineering, including 4+ years building mobile test automation for iOS and/or Android.
- Hands-on with at least one mobile framework: XCUITest, XCTest, Espresso, Appium, Maestro, Detox, or similar.
- Strong scripting/programming; can build harnesses and small tools yourself.
- Has integrated tests into CI/CD or a release pipeline.
- Can debug a flaky failure and hand engineering something useful.
- Understands release risk and how to prioritize what gets tested.
- Comfortable when builds change often and specs aren't finished.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Both iOS and Android.
- TestRail or a similar test management tool.
- Datadog, RUM, Firebase, crash reporting, or other mobile observability.
- Testing AI, voice, chat, payments, subscriptions, or latency-sensitive features.
- Building dashboards or release reports.
- Working with developers to move checks into unit or integration tests.
