Job description

We are looking for a technical heavyweight to serve as a founding pillar of Tapestry's new NYC Engineering Hub. As the Engineering Manager for the Data Platform team, you will lead the evolution of our Agentic Data Platform-the engine that transforms raw grid data, drone imagery, and street-level perception into a high fidelity digital replica of the world's electricity networks. You will lead teams through ambiguous charters, ensuring our data infrastructure isn't just a repository, but an active, intelligent participant in solving grid complexity.

How you will make 10X Impact

  • Architect Autonomous Systems: Lead the design of an "agentic" platform that automates LLM based data discovery, metadata enrichment, and governance, spanning the breadth of Tapestry's multimodal data stack.
  • Take models from prototype to production: Partner with the Machine Learning team to bridge the gap between core algorithms and scalable systems, ensuring seamless integration of cutting-edge models into the agentic platform to maximize 10x output.
  • Code-Level Leadership: Remain "dangerously" technical. You will own high-stakes design reviews, mentor senior ICs, and ensure our production deployments meet Google-scale reliability standards.
  • Build the Hub: As a site anchor in NYC, you will play a critical role in hiring, mentoring, and establishing the engineering culture for a rapidly growing team.

Requirements

  • Experience : 8+ years in data engineering, backend infrastructure, or distributed systems, with at least 2+ years in formal people management or high-impact tech-lead roles.
  • Architectural Depth : Proven track record of building scalable platforms that handle multimodal data (structured grid data + unstructured imagery/spatial data).
  • Operational Excellence : Deep understanding of data governance, multi-tenancy, and "data-as-a-product" philosophies in a production environment.
  • Communication : The ability to translate high-level "moonshot" ambiguity into concrete technical roadmaps for your team and stakeholders.

It'd be great if you also had:

  • PhD in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
  • Prior experience in a "zero-to-one" environment or building out a new geographic engineering site.
  • Experience building LLM-orchestrated data pipelines or autonomous agent frameworks.
  • Background in geospatial data or physical system modeling.
  • A passion for using data to create a future with reliable, affordable and clean energy for everyone.

Benefits & conditions

  • Transform with purpose: We build solutions that solve real problems and create meaningful impact.
  • Be a Tapestry, not a thread: We collaborate across diverse skills and perspectives to achieve more than we can individually.
  • Always fine-tune: We stay curious, seek feedback, and refine our understanding as we learn.
  • Stay grounded: We listen openly, value different perspectives, and stay focused on what matters most.

What we offer

A culture that supports growth, ownership, and meaningful impact, along with:

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and flexible hybrid work model
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Professional development
  • The ability to work on important real-world problems within an Alphabet-backed environment

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000 - $304,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
