Job description
- Own the software strategy and technical roadmap for the Custom Solutions organization.
- Define software architecture standards, development methodologies, coding practices, and governance.
- Architect complex customer solutions integrating Rohde & Schwarz instruments, third-party hardware, automation frameworks, and enterprise software.
- Drive decision-making between 3rd party software vendors vs internal development.
- Drive development of reusable software frameworks, APIs, libraries, and reference architectures to reduce custom engineering effort.
- Lead technical discovery sessions, requirements analysis, and solution definition with strategic customers.
- Develop technical proposals, Statements of Work (SOWs), software architecture documentation, and implementation plans.
- Provide technical leadership throughout project execution, including design reviews, code reviews, and technical risk mitigation.
- Establish best practices for CI/CD, version control, cybersecurity, software quality, and lifecycle management.
- Collaborate with Product Management, R&D, Sales, Customer Success, and Systems Engineering to align custom solutions with product roadmaps.
- Mentor software engineers and solution architects while fostering engineering excellence and innovation.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in technical leadership or software architecture.
- Expertise in C#, Python, C++, .NET, REST APIs, and modern software architecture principles.
- Experience with automated test systems, RF test & measurement, or industrial instrumentation preferred.
- Experience developing scalable software platforms, reusable frameworks, and customer-facing engineering solutions.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, Git, Azure DevOps or equivalent DevOps toolchains.
- Strong customer-facing communication, systems thinking, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Experience in Aerospace & Defense, Wireless Communications, Semiconductor, EMC, or Automotive industries preferred.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain required export compliance and/or security clearance as required.
Benefits & conditions
The total compensation for this position is $150K-$185K. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
