Job description
Principal is seeking an Experienced Data Analyst within our Benefits & Protection Data & Analytics Team. This role also plays a critical part in supporting our distribution business partners. You will serve as an Analytics Technical Lead within a cross-functional product team, collaborating closely with data engineering, product management partners to help refine business problems, shape solution approaches, and influence the data products and insights delivered to stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings strong capabilities across both Data Analytics and Business Intelligence and is comfortable applying the right analytical approach to solve the problem at hand. This includes exploring and analyzing data to uncover insights, defining meaningful metrics and success measures, developing visualizations and analytic solutions, and delivering scalable data products that support informed decision-making.
Here are some examples of the things you will do:
- Partner with business stakeholders, product management, and data engineering to translate business challenges into analytical questions, solution approaches, and actionable outcomes.
- Examine data to identify patterns, trends, risks, opportunities, and drivers of business performance using exploratory analysis, statistical techniques, and analytical modeling.
- Design and deliver dashboards, reports, scorecards, and other decision-support solutions that provide timely, trusted, and actionable insights.
- Define and maintain business metrics, KPIs, and analytical requirements to support consistent measurement and informed decision-making.
- Consult with stakeholders to investigate complex business questions, often in situations where the root cause, hypothesis, or solution is not yet known.
- Create clear written, visual, and verbal narratives that communicate findings, recommendations, and business implications to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Partner with data engineering to develop scalable, sustainable, and governed analytical solutions aligned with enterprise standards and best practices.
- Promote data literacy and self-service analytics by helping stakeholders understand available data, metrics, and analytical capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a Business, Technical, or Analytical field (e.g., Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or related field)
- 3+ years of Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or related analytical experience (e.g. mathematics, engineering or financial analysis)
- Experience using data to solve complex business problems and influence decision making
- Experience defining and implementing new products, processes, standards, or operational plans that impact business outcomes
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations and help create clarity for partners and stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings to diverse audiences
- Strong analytical, technical, statistical, and problem-solving skills
- Proven attention to detail and commitment to data quality
Preferred experience with:
- Python, AWS, SQL, PowerBI and/or related analytical technologies
- Data modeling, reporting, and self-service analytics solutions
- Dashboard and visualization design
- KPI and metric development
- Data storytelling and executive-level communication
- UX and visualization best practices
- Insurance industry experience, particularly Benefits & Protection
Benefits & conditions
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$89300 - $148200 / year
Salary Details
The following salary ranges reflect market-specific compensation for this position across multiple job levels. Candidates will be evaluated to determine the appropriate job level based on their skills and experience.
- Data Analyst III: $89,300 - $120,650 / year
- Sr Data Analyst I: $110,200 - $148,200 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
