Job description

We're looking for a Technical Manager, People Team to lead the strategy and hands-on build of our firm's people technology ecosystem. In this role, you'll own the vi by Aderant platform, serve as the integration lead connecting Workday to downstream systems, and work hands-on in a .NET environment with tools like Boomi and Intapp Integration Builder. You'll split your time between writing code, designing architecture, configuring platforms, and partnering directly with HR and talent stakeholders translating business needs into technical solutions that scale. If you thrive at the intersection of deep technical execution and strategic leadership, and want to shape the systems that power our people function, we want to hear from you., * Design, develop, and maintain integrations between Workday, vi by Aderant, and other enterprise systems using Boomi, Intapp Integration Builder, and similar iPaaS tools; develop custom applications, APIs, and middleware in .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API) to support data flows beyond out-of-the-box connectors.

  • Serve as technical owner of the vi by Aderant platform (viDesktop, viRecruit, and related modules) managing configuration, customization, vendor coordination, and system upgrades/releases with minimal disruption.
  • Develop and maintain SQL Server databases, stored procedures, and reporting queries; implement automated data workflows and scheduled jobs to synchronize data and reduce manual processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration failures, data discrepancies, and performance issues across the people technology stack; manage consultant onboarding/offboarding (access provisioning, security coordination) and support engagement survey data validation.

Attorney Talent & Professional Development Support

  • Partner with attorney talent, professional development, and practice group leadership to ensure vi by Aderant and related talent systems meet the needs of a law firm environment.
  • Configure and enhance viRecruit workflows for lateral/entry-level hiring and viDesktop modules for associate development, performance reviews, CLE tracking, mentoring, and career progression.
  • Support partner compensation and evaluation processes within the talent technology ecosystem.
  • Ensure integrations between vi by Aderant, Workday, and other firm systems deliver accurate, timely data to talent stakeholders.

Architecture, Strategy & Optimization

  • Define and maintain integration architecture for the people technology ecosystem, including data flow diagrams, API documentation, and system dependency maps.
  • Evaluate the firm's people technology landscape and recommend opportunities to consolidate, modernize, or re-architect platforms and integrations.
  • Partner with the People department on system selection and implementation projects, including requirements gathering, vendor evaluation, proof-of-concept development, and change management.
  • Establish development standards (source control, code review, deployment, documentation) and own the end-to-end SDLC for people systems version control, release management, testing, and environment promotion for both internal and consultant-delivered work.

Data Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure people systems comply with data privacy regulations, firm policies, and legal industry standards.
  • Maintain data governance practices, including data quality standards, audit procedures, and access controls.
  • Support reporting needs related to compliance, diversity and inclusion, and regulatory requirements.

Team Management

  • Evaluate, mentor, and develop direct reports; provide coaching, feedback, and goal-setting support to encourage individual and team growth.
  • Structure the team effectively and ensure efficient workflows, assigning and monitoring projects to meet client service and business objectives.
  • Promote consistency, fairness, and open dialogue (including regular 1:1s); ensure firm policies are followed, and prepare timely, substantive performance evaluations.
  • Identify and address employee relations and performance concerns in partnership with HR; participate in recruiting for the team, including drafting position descriptions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field, with 57 years of experience in software development, systems integration, or people systems engineering, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong .NET development experience (C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API) with the ability to design, build, and maintain production applications and integrations.
  • Experience building integrations with Boomi, Intapp Integration Builder, or similar iPaaS platforms, including API-based integrations (REST, SOAP, OAuth, webhooks) and familiarity with Workday APIs and integration toolkits.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server, including complex queries, stored procedures, SSIS packages, and database design.
  • Understanding of HR and talent management processes, including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and compensation, along with project management experience.
  • Experience with source control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and structured deployment practices.
  • Law firm or professional services experience preferred, ideally with hands-on administration and customization of vi by Aderant (viDesktop, viRecruit) or similar legal talent management platforms.
  • Preferred experience with Azure services (Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus) or similar cloud tools, front-end development (JavaScript, React, Blazor) for internal tools and dashboards, and/or learning management systems and CLE tracking tools., Morrison & Foerster is an equal opportunity employer. Where required by law, salary ranges are stated below. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following: local market data and ranges; an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications. New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto salary range: $184k to $257k

Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Washington, D.C. salary range: $175k to $244k

Denver salary range: $164k to $229k
