Job description

  • Lead the definition and design of three connected digital products: a customer portal, a customer website, and an internal operations tool
  • Own product discovery across all three products through research with customers, installers, and internal users
  • Map user journeys end to end and use them to guide design and prioritisation decisions
  • Set scope, priority, and sequencing across the portfolio and own the backlog end to end
  • Design platforms and user interfaces grounded in user-centred design best practice
  • Create journeys, prototypes, high-fidelity UI, and a single design system spanning all three products
  • Validate designs with real users before build and make usability testing the default working method
  • Produce build-ready specifications and acceptance criteria for the development team
  • Operate as the design and product voice at programme level alongside our Group IT Director and technical leads

  • Backbone, We are a market-leading manufacturer based in the North West and part of a £500m group. We are undergoing a major re-platforming and transformation programme and are looking for a senior, autonomous product and design lead to help shape three connected digital products. This is a hybrid remote role based in Blackburn, Lancashire, offering a salary of £85,000 to £95,000 per year. You will work with significant ownership and visibility at programme level, helping us deliver well-designed, user-centred products that are validated before build.

Requirements

  • Senior-level track record leading product design on shipped products
  • Demonstrable UX depth, including user research, journey mapping, and user-centred design methods
  • Portfolio evidence showing where our work changed what was built
  • Genuine dual capability in product ownership judgement and hands-on design craft
  • Experience taking at least one product from blank sheet to live, ideally as the sole or lead designer
  • B2B, customer portal, or self-service experience strongly valued
  • Exposure to manufacturing, construction products, or the trade sector is a plus
  • Ability to work with full autonomy in a role with no design team or design operations support
