Job description

The D. E. Shaw group seeks an experienced site reliability engineer (SRE) to join its SRE team. This team is involved in engineering and supporting the firm's critical infrastructure platforms. They also manage the centralized development infrastructure and partner with engineering teams to advocate and educate on the optimal use of the firm's systems to build high performing, reliable, and scalable applications. This is a hands-on technical role that offers the opportunity to be part of a collegial, collaborative, and engaging working environment.

What you'll do day-to-day

Ensure the scalability, reliability, and observability of our systems to maintain and improve the firm's core infrastructure environment. Lead a range of engineering projects, from developing proprietary platforms for configuration management and monitoring, to implementing open source and vendor software for orchestration and automation tooling. Participate in incident management and drive strategic solutions to troubleshoot complex technical problems. Collaborate with engineering teams across the firm and provide technical mentorship to other members of the SRE team., The D. E. Requirements

At least seven to ten years of deep Linux infrastructure experience is required; a degree in computer science (or another technical discipline) is preferred. Experience designing and building services that are scalable and resilient, along with proficiency in at least one programming language (Go, Python) and familiarity with modern development practices and tools. Excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with varied departments across the firm. Demonstrated knowledge of technology infrastructure combined with the ability to debug complex issues under pressure and run services across hardware, virtual machines, and containers. Expertise in tools utilized for monitoring, canary deployments, auto-remediation, auto-scaling, and CI/CD, along with experience in server provisioning, virtualization, config management, and software packaging. GPFS experience is beneficial but not required.
