Job description

Under general direction, provides technical solutions and long-term planning for server and storage technology services within the university environment also provides advanced level of support as part of team delivering technology services. Configures and manages physical and virtual ecosystems to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and high resource availability. Works closely with customers, technical team members, and vendors to design and execute technology solutions to meet the needs of campus while ensuring high availability of systems., 1. Facilitates in the evaluation, design, development, support, and maintenance of the server and storage technology resources within the university environment to meet demand for existing services and new technology projects. Installs, configures, and maintains data center hardware Maintains, configures, and upgrades VMware/VDI ecosystem to meet best practices and to comply with vendor supported configurations. Administers and manages an Active Directory domain with associated services and policies. Works closely with vendors to ensure resources are being configured and maintained per supported frameworks and methods. Facilitates the team in providing technical support to the network/server environment to enhance cross-coverage between the teams and expand current technical skill sets within self and other team members.

  1. Applies hardware and software life cycle initiatives. Facilitates in purchasing recommendations and manages related licenses. Provides capacity planning reports, metrics, and recommendations for server and storage technology resources. Installs patches to maintain currency in both hardware and software solutions. Facilitates in the design of redundancies to minimize the impact of outages. Creates and participates in documentation initiatives during project implementation and completion to ensure efficient planning and execution. Provides guidance regarding emerging standards and participates in technical decisions regarding usage patterns, architecture and best practices.
  2. Facilitates in adequately securing the Data Center. Facilitates in demonstrating the capacity to develop a robust network, server, and storage architecture. Facilitates in the management and operations of the data center and the data center capacity planning. Works closely with customers and cross technical team members to design and architect appropriate solutions that meet the needs of the campus while ensuring high availability of systems. Enables and participates with the team to provide technical support for the delivery of technology services in an environment that is available 24x7 with low tolerance for downtime. Provides technical support and analysis of operational, server, network and technology problems presented by university faculty, staff and students.
  3. Facilitates and participates in documenting and maintaining information for server and storage technology resources and the associated business processes. Drives efficiency through standardization and cross-training. Facilitates and participates in mentoring and cross training full-time employees and a team of student workers to provide support for the delivery of server and storage services. Collaborate with the Information Security Team to ensure security policies and standards are followed and enforced. Work in partnership with other IT team members and campus officials to ensure execution of disaster recovery and business continuity testing.
  4. Facilitates in the implementation of technology as a part of a cross-functional team Facilitates in the research and analysis for new or enhanced technology services. Facilitates in the development and deployment of both new and upgraded technology services. Leverages common software tools (ticketing and project management software) to follow request, incident, change management, project management and time tracking processes. Provide updates to associated tickets and projects to keep both customers and team members informed of current status or progress. Facilitates with team responsibility of queue management and ensure tickets are resolved accurately, timely and according to priority.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills

  • Work evenings, nights, and weekends., * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, M.I.S., or related field required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing and maintaining a VMware virtual environment, Microsoft Active Directory domain, server OS management, storage, or file share management.
  • Additional consideration may be given to candidates with specific technical certifications related to systems applicable to Angelo State University.
