Job description
HiAstro is a Vedic astrology platform built for an Indian audience that the rest of the industry tends to under-serve - our user base skews Tier 2 and Tier 3, and many of our users are encountering a product like this for the first time.
The astrology space already has players - AI-chat startups and astrologer-marketplace apps. We're building something different: a daily experience with personalized content and habit-forming ritual mechanics that bring people back. The craft bar here isn't an "astrology app." It's a polished, habit-forming consumer product - the kind of daily experience people actually return to.
You'll own real surface area from day one - full flows, not just screens - and the motion and feel of those flows is your work too, not a separate handoff.
What you'll do
- Design end-to-end flows for our consumer mobile app - from problem framing and user flows through wireframes, high-fidelity UI, prototypes, and the interaction and motion that bring them to life.
- Own the feel of the product: transitions, micro-interactions, and the choreography of features like daily rituals, streaks, and chart formation - motion as a core part of the experience, not decoration.
- Work across the product surface: onboarding, subscription and monetization, daily-engagement features, and the astrology content experience itself.
- Design for a bilingual product (English + Hindi/Devanagari), making deliberate choices about typography, layout, and tone for users at different levels of digital fluency.
- Write the words too - UX copy and microcopy are part of the design.
- Use AI tooling to move fast - prototype, generate, and iterate at a speed that matches an early-stage team.
- Contribute to and extend our design system as the product grows.
The designer's role on our team
We're a small, design-led team, so the role is broad by design:
- You own outcomes, not tasks. You're trusted with a problem end-to-end, not handed pixel-by-pixel specs.
- You're the user's advocate in the room - keeping us honest about what our actual users understand and trust.
- You're a generalist with depth across product thinking, interaction, motion, visual craft, and copy. You won't be siloed.
- You work directly with founders and PMs. Decisions are fast and conversations are direct - we value honest critique over polite agreement.
Requirements
- 3-5 years designing consumer-facing digital products, ideally mobile-first.
- Strong portfolio of shipped work showing flows and decisions, not just polished screens.
- Fluency in Figma (components, auto-layout, prototyping) and strong interaction and visual design fundamentals.
- Motion and interaction design as a core skill - you can design and articulate transitions, micro-interactions, and the timing and feel of a flow, not just static frames. (Rive preferred; Lottie/After Effects a plus).
- AI-native workflow. You're genuinely fast with AI tools and use them to ship - image, video, and content generation plus rapid prototyping with the likes of Claude, ChatGPT, Midjourney, Magnific, Freepik Spaces, and Figma Weave.
- Comfort using MCP across different tools to wire AI into real production workflows, not just one-off prompts.
- Systems thinking - reusable patterns over one-off screens.
- Sensitivity to UX writing and tone.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-moving environment.
Bonus points
- Experience designing for the Indian market, vernacular users, or bilingual/Devanagari interfaces.
- Interest in or curiosity about astrology, spirituality, or culturally rooted products.
- A reading habit, especially around art and design - we value people who feed their craft beyond the screen.
