Job description

The AI Developer / AI Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining AI-driven systems that power eMerge's AI-native multi-specialty practice model. This role blends machine learning, agentic AI, workflow automation, cloud engineering, and healthcare IT integration to support multi-state clinical operations., · AI Model Development - Build, train, and evaluate machine learning, deep learning, and LLM-based models for podiatry workflows, documentation, coding, triage, and operational automation.

· Agentic AI Systems - Develop autonomous agents for scheduling, intake, documentation, quality review, RCM, and patient communication.

· ML Ops & Production Deployment - Convert prototypes into production-ready solutions using CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and Azure-native deployment patterns.

· Healthcare IT Integration - Integrate AI systems with EHR, RCM platforms, imaging workflows, and multi-specialty operations using FHIR, HL7, REST APIs, and secure data pipelines.

· Workflow Automation - Build automations using Azure Functions, event-driven architecture, and cloud orchestration to reduce administrative burden.

· Data Engineering Collaboration - Partner with outside data engineers to design pipelines for structured/unstructured clinical data, imaging, and operational datasets.

· Cloud Architecture - Deploy AI systems using Azure AI Services, AKS, serverless compute, vector databases, and secure identity frameworks.

· Responsible AI & Compliance - Ensure all AI systems meet HIPAA, CMS billing rules, state regulations, and eMerge's Responsible AI Framework.

· Continuous Improvement - Monitor model drift, retrain models, and stay current with emerging AI technologies relevant to ambulatory care and podiatry.

· Strong programming skills.

· Experience with modern LLM frameworks.

· Experience deploying AI systems in Azure (Azure AI, AKS, Azure Functions, Azure DevOps).

· Experience with healthcare data and interoperability standards and terminologies such as HL7®, FHIR®, LOINC®, and SNOMED.

· Familiarity with medical coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and DRGs.

· Experience with vector databases, RAG pipelines, and embedding models.

· Strong understanding of HIPAA, PHI handling, CMS billing rules, and clinical workflow constraints.

· Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau®, PowerBI or equivalent.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to deconstruct ambiguous questions into actionable analytical tasks.

· Knowledge of user-centered design principles and agile development methodologies.

· Strong communication skills and ability to translate between clinical, technical, and business contexts.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, AI-native startup environment with evolving workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with biomechanics or ambulatory specialty workflows.

· Experience integrating AI systems with EHRs such as Ethizo, PCC, Epic, or Athena.

· Experience with Microsoft Graph, Power Platform, or enterprise identity/security frameworks.

· Experience building agentic systems or multi-agent orchestration frameworks.

· Experience in multi-state healthcare operations or regulatory environments.

What Success Looks Like
