Job description

The Cyber Security System Administrator is responsible for managing and securing the organization's IT infrastructure, ensuring the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of critical systems. This role involves deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting security tools, managing IT and vendor risk, monitoring system performance, and implementing security best practices. This position works closely with other security engineers, IT teams, and business units to enforce security policies, respond to incidents, remediate security vulnerabilities, and support compliance with regulatory requirements.

What you'll do

  • Administer and maintain servers, networks, and other IT systems to ensure optimal performance.

  • Install, configure, and update software and hardware components for systems.

  • Monitor system performance, conduct regular audits, and perform routine maintenance to prevent downtime.

  • Ensure system security by implementing best practices for firewalls, antivirus software, backups, and user access controls.

  • Provide technical support for users, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.

  • Perform system backups and disaster recovery procedures.

  • Manage user accounts and permissions, ensuring proper access control and security compliance.

  • Collaborate with IT teams to plan and implement software and system upgrades or enhancements.

  • Document system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and other relevant information for team use.

  • Assist with network management, ensuring seamless connectivity across the organization.

  • Respond to system alerts and perform root cause analysis on issues to prevent recurrence.

  • Manage cloud-based infrastructure and services (if applicable), ensuring integration with on-premises systems.

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

  • Must be accessible via mobile services (i.e. text, voice, data) during non-working hours for upgrades, system outages, and configuration changes.

Requirements

  • Experience working with network and application vulnerability scanners.

  • Knowledge and understanding of security frameworks.

  • Capable of communicating directly with all areas of the company regarding vulnerabilities and risk.

  • Ability to lead monthly patch management meetings and follow-up meetings to ensure patches for servers and endpoints are being implemented timely.

  • Knowledge and understanding of application and network security threats and vulnerabilities to be able to provide cybersecurity recommendations to leadership.

  • Ability to work closely with infrastructure and application teams to advise and support remediation efforts to close vulnerability exposure to new threats in the wild and verify the organization's security posture against them.

  • Capable of serving as a point of contact for new and existing vulnerability-related questions/issues.

  • Ability to provide and present security metrics to management related to risks across the environment.

  • Perform regular and critical maintenance activities on security systems as required.

  • Ability to research and conduct security assessments on new and existing vendors to ensure their security controls align with best practice standards.

  • Work directly with business areas and their vendors to identify and resolve risks.

  • Knowledge and understanding of security policies and standards.

  • Ability to follow Project Management practices for implementing projects and changes.

  • Skilled in maintaining technical documentation and designing procedures for new technology.

  • Capable of preparing system charts, workflow diagrams, and cost-benefit analysis summaries.

  • Strong leadership and meeting participation skills.

  • Ability to stay updated on technology developments.

  • Proven experience in mentoring and providing training.

  • Proficient in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).

  • Understanding of essential business operations.

  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure architecture (database, messaging, security, OS, networks, storage, business continuity/disaster recovery).

  • Ability to evaluate infrastructure processes and conduct gap analysis.

  • Familiar with industry architecture standards.

  • Proficient in Change Management/Release processes.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree or completion of a Computer Science Program from a Technical Trade School preferred. Technical training with certification in assigned technology is required as applicable.

Infrastructure Administrator

  • Minimum of two years' experience in I.T. and/or application development required.

System Administrator

  • Minimum of five years' experience in I.T. and/or application development required.

Senior System Administrator

  • Minimum of eight years' experience in I.T. and/or application development required.

Bonus if you have

  • Demonstrated experience with managing assigned technology by performing regular and critical maintenance tasks within defined service levels preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other IT-related tools.
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment, including attending meetings in person or virtually.

Infrastructure Administrator

$82,480 - $103,100, * Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid.
