JOB SUMMARY: The Residential Counselor provides daily supervision, reporting and support services to guests in a low barrier shelter facility that promotes a Housing First philosophy; primary responsibility is to facilitate an emotional and physical environment conducive to enhancing positive guest morale and stabilization by ensuring the security and safety of the facility; maintaining appropriate records in addition to ongoing written and verbal communication with the case manager and supervisor in relationship to daily guest activities; support and encourage guests in achieving goals outlined in their housing plans., * Review events of the previous shift by reading of the Daily Logbook at the beginning of work shift & discuss with case manager.
- Supervise clients while they cook and eat, ensuring proper hygiene and cleanliness in dining areas. Address any safety concerns immediately and ensure that all kitchen equipment is used properly and cleaned after use.
- Complete weekly inspections of all guest rooms, checking for cleanliness, safety, and any maintenance issues. Document and report any concerns to the appropriate team members for follow-up.
- Every Thursday, inspect the kitchen and fridge areas, discarding expired food and ensuring that all items are properly stored and organized according to health and safety standards.
- Supervise and document the distribution of guest medications according to protocol. Maintain an accurate medication log, ensuring all medications taken by guests are accounted are logged.
- Coordinate the Thurston order, ensuring that facility supplies are ordered in a timely manner. Receive inventory deliveries, check for accuracy, and restock supplies as needed.
- Welcome donors as they arrive, thanking them for their contributions. Ensure that the donation documentation is completed in the donation binder.
- Perform hourly rounds of the facility, including both indoor and outdoor areas, to ensure cleanliness, safety, and that all guests are complying with shelter guidelines. Document observations in the daily logbook.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in the logbook, ensuring entries are made every hour and include detailed notes on guest activities, incidents, and any other pertinent information.
- Oversee the sign-in and sign-out sheet, ensuring that all guests are properly logged. Replace the sheet when necessary and notify staff of any discrepancies.
- Address any incidents involving guests, including conflicts or rule violations, and complete thorough incident reports promptly. Ensure all necessary parties are informed and follow up on issues as needed.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of hygiene products, food, and other essential supplies to ensure adequate resources for both guests and staff. Notify supervisor if supplies are running low or if any issues arise.
- Maintain respectful and calm communication with both clients and staff members. Model positive behavior and ensure that interactions with all guests are compassionate and professional.
- Accurately log and organize all donations, ensuring they are placed in the appropriate storage areas. Ask donors to complete the Donation Form and log it in the designated binder for record-keeping.
- Oversee the laundry room signup sheet to ensure that clients are following the guidelines and cleaning up after themselves. Report any issues with laundry equipment or behavior to the appropriate supervisor.
- Use the Google form to report any maintenance needs or issues observed during the shift, ensuring timely attention to all facility concerns.
- Record the temperatures of the single and family fridges regularly to ensure they meet safety standards for food storage and preparation.
- Monitor and document the temperature of the medication fridge to ensure proper storage conditions.
- Greeting and provide support to office volunteers who come to assist at the center during the week.
- Manage the sign-up process for the shower program, ensuring that clients are assigned their allotted time slots.
- Ensure towels are available for guests and monitor usage to ensure clients stick to their allotted time range.
- Address any issues that may arise during the shower program to ensure it runs smoothly and effectively for all guests.
- Supervise clients and maintain a safe, respectful environment.
- Communicate with the incoming staff to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities. Inform them of any important updates, incidents, or client concerns
- Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Executive Director
Physical Requirement: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
Requirements

- Requires knowledge and belief in "Housing First" philosophy and strategies
- Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of population served.
- Demonstrate maturity, good judgment, and the ability to respond quickly & calmly in a crisis situation and to follow directions
- Ability to interact with guests and build relationships with them while ensuring their needs are being met
- The ability to establish and set appropriate boundaries with guests served
- Delivers services with safety, respect, and effectiveness. Utilize Harm Reduction model and Trauma Informed approach during delivery of services
- Strong communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and crisis intervention skills are required
- Able to organize daily activities of self and others and to work as a team player
- Able to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and related software
- Follows all policies and procedures of the organization, * High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of Customer or Human Services experience.
