Job description

What if you could help define how AI transforms cyber security, rather than simply consume someone else's tools?

We're working with a highly successful, well-funded technology business that's investing heavily in the future of AI-driven security. Rather than buying every new security product that appears on the market, this team asks a different question:

'Can we build something smarter for our environment?'

This is an opportunity to join a small, highly capable in-house security engineering team focused on applying AI and LLMs to improve security across the organisation and throughout the SDLC. You'll evaluate emerging technologies, experiment with new approaches, and help shape how AI is used securely, effectively and responsibly.

What you'll be doing

You'll be hands-on across engineering, security and AI, including:

  • Exploring how AI and LLMs can improve application security and software delivery.
  • Building and refining AI-powered solutions that replicate or outperform off-the-shelf security tooling where it makes sense for the business.
  • Evaluating tools such as Cursor and other AI-assisted development platforms to understand where they genuinely improve productivity and where they don't.
  • Integrating AI into security workflows to reduce manual effort, improve developer experience and shorten time-to-fix.
  • Working with SAST, DAST and other application security tooling to improve detection, prioritisation and remediation.
  • Testing AI itself - understanding its strengths, weaknesses, limitations, attack surface and reliability before recommending adoption.
  • Helping shape secure AI best practice across development teams.
  • Working with CI/CD pipelines, pull requests, quality gates and automation to continuously improve security posture.
  • Writing scripts and lightweight tooling that make developers' lives easier while improving security outcomes.
  • Identifying areas where AI isn't quite ready today, but ensuring the organisation is well positioned to adopt new capabilities as models and tooling evolve., This isn't a large corporate with layers of governance and endless meetings.

It's a smart, agile business with significant financial backing, an engineering-first culture and the freedom to experiment. You'll have the autonomy to investigate ideas, prototype solutions and influence the direction of AI-enabled security across the organisation.

The working culture is exceptionally mature, with a genuinely flexible remote-first approach, including the opportunity to work overseas for agreed periods.

Requirements

  • Offensive Security or Penetration Testing.
  • Application Security or Product Security.
  • Security Engineering.
  • AI Security.
  • DevSecOps.

You'll probably also have:

  • Experience with SAST and DAST tooling.
  • A good understanding of secure software development and modern SDLC practices.
  • Some coding experience. We're not expecting a full-time software engineer, but you should be comfortable reading code, reviewing AI-generated ('vibe') code, making small changes and understanding what good looks like.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, pull requests and automated security controls.
  • A naturally curious mindset with a desire to test, evaluate and challenge new AI capabilities rather than simply accept vendor claims.

Benefits & conditions

This role would suit someone senior who enjoys solving problems, understands the outcome they're trying to achieve, and can work backwards to deliver it. You'll be trusted to make decisions, explore new technologies and help shape the future of security engineering.

Package

  • Salary up to £120,000.
  • Remote-first working.
  • Flexible overseas working for agreed periods.
  • Backed by a successful, financially secure business.
  • The opportunity to work on genuinely innovative AI security projects rather than simply operating existing tooling.
