Job description

Effective immediately a position exists for a Help Desk Technician I within the Norristown Area School district located at the Administration building. The Help Desk Technician I is responsible for providing both telephone and on-site support for all District end-users, effectively communicating the non-technical users, isolating nature and source of problems and referring information to other technology specialists as necessary. Additional responsibilities include maintaining all aspects of computer usage: set-up, cleaning, simple repairs, installing software and maintaining computer lab and classroom computers., * Tests and implements new hardware and software technologies

  • Creates Custom Programming Solutions for workflow efficiency
  • Develops and maintains Enterprise Level Deployment Systems
  • Maintains user login profiles and policies
  • Installs operating systems software updates, virus protection and computer hardware
  • Installs instructional software on teacher and student computers
  • Installs and upgrades computer hardware
  • Performs maintenance on hardware and network systems
  • Configures computers and printers for network use
  • Responds to requests for technical assistance and trouble shoots user questions and problems
  • Identifies, researches and resolves problems
  • Instructs staff on commonly used software packages
  • Trains staff on District equipment and software packages
  • Travels to various District facilities to fulfill work orders
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science preferred
  • Equivalent combination of training or experience as determined acceptable by Human Resources
  • Knowledge of computer and network system operations including software and hardware maintenance and installation
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with computer equipment and software applications
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and record keeping
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with district staff including conducting training sessions
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Strong organizational skills and strategic planning skills, pro-social collaboration, communication and planning skills, and technology skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, self-directed, and motivated.
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with staff and students.
  • Ability to do job responsibilities with minimal supervision and ability to schedule time to meet deadlines.
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
