Job description
You will join the platform team. We build the delivery platform that Deltares teams use to build, test and release their scientific software for Windows, Linux and High Performance Computing (HPC), and we treat it as an internal product: our developers are our customers. That software carries Deltares' knowledge of water and the subsurface to users worldwide. Furthermore you:
- Build and maintain our software factory: shared pipeline templates and building blocks that teams adopt because they are the easiest option, not because they are mandated.
- Guide and advise development teams in improving their own CI/CD pipelines, through sparring, workshops and coaching.
- Standardize how Deltares builds and releases software.
- Shorten the feedback loop between our CI pipelines and validation runs (on HPC clusters).
- Bring security into everything we build, with a focus on the software supply chain.
- Keep the factory running: tooling, incident response, root cause analysis., This vacancy based in Delft. Working remotely from abroad is not possible. We encourage candidates living in the Netherlands to apply to make sure you land properly within the team and can visit the office multiple days a week. Requirements
We are not looking for someone who ticks every box, but for a team player who works in an open, inclusive, and constructive way and wants to help colleagues grow. You recognize yourself in most of this:
- You have around five years of experience designing, building and improving CI/CD pipelines, in whichever ecosystem you learnt it. A degree in computer science or similar helps; equivalent experience counts just as much.
- You have written software yourself, so you know from the inside what a good and a bad developer experience feels like.
- Messy, historically grown environments make you curious rather than stressed.
- You can win developers over: in our world, standardization happens by convincing, not by mandate.
- Containers, Git-based workflows and at least one scripting language are familiar ground.
- Experience with software supply chain security is a plus, not a demand.
- Quality is a normal part of how you work: reviewing, testing, validating, and documenting.
Benefits & conditions
- You will join the platform team, 11 people today. Our product is the developer experience at Deltares.
- 34 vacation days based on a 40-hour workweek, ABP pension, wellness budget, mobility budget, and reimbursement for healthcare costs.
- A 12-month contract (at least 32 hours) with the intention of converting it into a permanent contract. Salary and salary scale (15 / 16 ) placement is based on your experience €3864,-7280,- gross per month based on a 40-hour workweek.
- And much more, further outlined on our careers website.
- Want to know more about applying your software skills at Deltares. Please check our website.
About the company
Do you want to build the platform behind software that helps the world deal with floods, droughts, and climate change? At Deltares we deliver scientific software to users worldwide, and we are looking for an experienced DevOps, cloud or platform engineer to help build that platform: the pipelines, tooling and standards that turn code into trustworthy releases, built and tested on everything from ordinary build agents to a national supercomputers., We run TeamCity with Kotlin DSL for pipelines, GitHub and GitLab for source code, and Python, Bash and PowerShell for automation. Containers run on Docker, or on Apptainer where supercomputers demand it. Harbor, Nexus, SonarQube Cloud and Sigrid do the artifact and quality work behind the scenes, and validation runs on HPC clusters such as SURF's Snellius supercomputer. It is a landscape still in evolution. That is what we use today. What we use tomorrow is an open conversation, and you will be part of it.
We are also curious about what AI can do for a delivery platform. We do not know yet which parts are real value and which are hype, and we would like to find out.
