Job description

  • Install, modify, remove, and decommission telecommunications equipment in Central Office environments.
  • Install and secure equipment bays, relay racks, cabinets, cable racking, ladder rack, and support infrastructure.
  • Pull, lace, dress, route, terminate, and label copper, fiber optic, coaxial, and DC power cabling.
  • Perform equipment additions, migrations, and removals while maintaining strict quality standards.
  • Install and terminate fiber optic cabling, including splice enclosures and patch panels.
  • Perform continuity testing, lead verification, fiber testing, and equipment validation.
  • Install and connect legacy -48V DC power systems, Battery Distribution Fuse Bays (BDFBs), fuse panels, and power cabling.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, floor plans, rack elevations, schematics, work orders, and installation specifications.
  • Prepare and execute Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and complete Job Information Memos (JIMs).
  • Update office record drawings and installation documentation.
  • Perform in-process and final quality inspections.
  • Maintain compliance with customer installation standards, safety requirements, and quality procedures.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project management and provide leadership to junior technicians when assigned.

Requirements

We are seeking experienced Level III and Level IV Central Office Telecommunications Technicians to support telecommunications infrastructure projects throughout the Beltway Region. This position is ideal for technicians with extensive Central Office (CO) installation experience who are capable of working independently in live carrier environments while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and workmanship.

Qualified candidates will have previous experience working in Central Offices, Mobile Switching Centers (MSC), Wire Centers, Data Centers, Headends, or other carrier-grade telecommunications facilities. Experience supporting major telecommunications carriers, transport providers, or internet service providers is highly preferred.

Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of Telcordia GR-1275 installation standards, Central Office installation practices, and telecommunications infrastructure., Candidates should possess a minimum of three years of Central Office installation experience and demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Level III technicians should be capable of:

  • Installing and removing common systems equipment
  • Performing equipment wiring on non-working systems
  • Reading and interpreting engineering documentation
  • Conducting cable verification and continuity testing
  • Preparing MOP documentation
  • Completing installation documentation and quality inspections
  • Leading Level I and II installers
  • Serving as lead technician on Common Systems projects

Level IV Qualifications

Candidates should possess six or more years of Central Office installation experience and be capable of performing all Level III responsibilities in addition to:

  • Working on live telecommunications equipment and circuits
  • Circuit modifications
  • Equipment testing and turn-up
  • Software additions and upgrades
  • Power transition activities
  • Battery installation and replacement
  • Working DC power distribution modifications
  • Technical leadership on complex Central Office projects

Preferred Experience

  • Central Office (CO) telecommunications environments
  • Telcordia GR-1275 installation standards
  • Carrier network infrastructure
  • DWDM, transport, switching, and routing equipment
  • Fiber optic installation and fusion splicing
  • Optical testing (OTDR, power meter, VFL)
  • Equipment turn-up and acceptance testing
  • DC power installation and distribution
  • BDFB, battery plants, rectifiers, and power systems
  • Rack and cabinet installation
  • Cable lacing and cable management
  • Blueprint and engineering drawing interpretation, * Strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Requirements
