Job description
- Design, develop, engineer, and implement solutions to MLS requirements.
- Perform complex risk analyses which also include risk assessment. Establish and satisfy information assurance and security requirements based upon the analysis of user, policy, regulatory, and resource demands.
- Support customers at the highest levels in the development and implementation of doctrine and policies.
- Apply know-how to government and commercial common user systems, as well as to dedicated special purpose systems requiring specialized security features and procedures. Perform analysis, design, and development of security features for system architectures.
- Performs all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. Monitor, evaluate, and maintain systems and procedures to safeguard internal information systems, network, databases, and Web-based security.
- Evaluates firewall change requests and assesses organizational risk.
- Assists with implementation of countermeasures or mitigating controls.
- Assists in conducting regular audits to ensure that systems are being operated securely, and information systems security policies and procedures are being implemented as defined in security plans.
- Assists in developing, testing, and operating routine firewalls, intrusion detection systems, enterprise anti-virus systems and software deployment tools following routine instructions.
- Safeguards the network against unauthorized infiltration, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
- Researches, evaluates, tests, and implements new security software or devices.
- Assists in conducting investigations of information systems security violations and incidents, reporting as necessary to management.
- Ensures the integrity and protection of networks, systems, and applications by technical enforcement of organizational security policies, through monitoring of vulnerability scanning devices.
- Performs periodic and on-demand system audits and vulnerability assessments, including user accounts, application access, file system and external Web integrity scans to determine compliance.
- Communicates alerts to agencies regarding intrusions and compromises to their network infrastructure, applications, and operating systems.
- Monitors and analyzes Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to identify security issues for remediation.
- Recognizes potential, successful, and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises thorough reviews and analyses of relevant event detail and summary information.
- Prepares incident reports of analysis methodology and results.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and privacy laws.
- Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
- Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
- Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols.
- Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government., We are seeking a Principal Network Engineer to join our team supporting the US Patent & Trademark Office ENISS program in Alexandria, VA.
Requirements
- Experience in providing Tier-3 Engineering and Operations Support;
- Experience in managing Cisco FMCs and FTDs - Configuring IPSec tunnels, ACLs, NATs, patching, logging, etc.;
- Experience in managing Axway Secure Transport - Configuring users, transfer sites, subscriptions, patching, file processing, etc.;
- Experience in migrating from Axway SUSE to Rocky 9;
- Experience in vulnerability identification and remediation;
- Experience in managing AWS resources - Configuring EC2s, ALB, RDS and troubleshooting;
- Experience in documentation - DOSP, Visio, draw.io, etc.;
- Experience in using QRadar, Rally and ServiceNow;
- Experience in managing Symantec Protection Engine for Cloud Services - Updates, patching, exclusions, etc., * Active Public Trust or ability to obtain
- BA or BS
- 8+ years of experience.
- Experience with Palo Alto firewalls and Cloud security a plus, The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds; and up to 50 pounds. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

- Amount of Travel: Less than 10%, Target salary range: $115,000.00 - $125,000.00.
