Job description
The Senior Embedded Systems Software Engineer is responsible for leading the development and delivery of embedded software solutions for next-generation commercial vehicle technologies. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain high-quality, reliable embedded software that enhances vehicle performance, safety, operational efficiency, and customer uptime. The engineer translates and interprets system requirements into effective software solutions through requirements analysis, architecture and design, coding, debugging, validation, and integration activities, ensuring deliverables meet quality, performance, and regulatory standards, supporting PACCAR's innovation and product development goals., * Develop embedded software models using MATLAB/Simulink/State flow per design of the software for next-generation electronic control units
- Manage the source control and controlled release of software models to maintain schedule, budget, and functionality for projects
- Participate in the planning and tracking of validation and usability studies of vehicle software module functionality
- Test and implement software modifications to repair defects discovered during validation and testing
- Lead reviews to ensure industry-leading embedded software development best practices are met with software models and modules
- Work with vehicle property owners, product developers, system architects, and software architects to develop and maintain software-level technical requirements specifications
- Design and release of embedded systems software and software architecture for heavy commercial trucks
- Provide interface documentation to wiring design, software architect(s), and other engineering design groups. Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of procedures and practices that ensure industry-leading, high-quality, reliable electronic systems and architecture
- Travel up to 10% (domestic & international)
Requirements
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or in a related field
- 7+ years of experience in the development & release of embedded software
- Proficiency using MATLAB/Simulink, Jenkins, continuous integration, python scripting, GIT, AZURE, and Requirements Management tools
- Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, SAE J1939, and LIN
- Proficiency in using Requirements Management tools and Systems Engineering tools
- Experience creating documentation including software requirements specifications, and engineering change notices
- Solid understanding of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques
- Experience within the automotive or commercial vehicle software or a similar industry-related background is preferred
- Knowledge of ISO 26262, ISO 15504, SPICE compliance, system-level embedded/software prototyping (RCP) and requirements generation preferred
- Experience using IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational DOORS, IBM Rational Team Concert, Canoe/Vector Tools, Visio, and/or HP Quality Center preferred
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%
