Job description

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of 48 Cyberspace Test Squadron's cloud infrastructure. This role requires a strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, technologies, and best practices. The Cloud Engineer will work closely with squadron test teams, developers, and leadership to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of 48CTS cloud-based services and applications. This role encompasses building, automating, and optimizing cloud infrastructure to meet current and future business needs., Cloud Infrastructure Design and Implementation:

  • Design, build, and deploy scalable, highly available, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions.
  • Select appropriate cloud services and technologies based on business requirements and cost considerations.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager.
  • Configure and manage virtual machines, containers, networking, storage, and databases in the cloud.
  • Implement and manage cloud-based security controls, including identity and access management (IAM), network security groups, and encryption.

Cloud Infrastructure Management and Maintenance:

  • Monitor cloud infrastructure performance and identify areas for optimization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as patching, upgrades, and backups.
  • Implement and maintain cloud monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Manage and optimize cloud costs.

Automation and Orchestration:

  • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and deployment using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for cloud-based applications.
  • Implement and manage container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm).

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain cloud security best practices.
  • Implement and manage security incident response procedures.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other IT teams, developers, and business stakeholders to understand their needs and provide cloud solutions.
  • Document cloud infrastructure designs, configurations, and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to other IT staff on cloud technologies.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date on the latest cloud technologies and trends.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve cloud infrastructure efficiency, security, and reliability.
  • Contribute to the development of cloud standards and best practices.
  • Research and recommend innovative cloud solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with 3 - 10 years of relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted for education.
  • Active Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and technologies (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
  • Experience with one or more major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls).
  • Experience with security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Familiarity with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
