Lead Backend Software Engineer (Product)

Insight Global is seeking a Lead Backend Software Engineer (Product) for a leading streaming media and entertainment technology client. This engineer will join a highly collaborative Product API team responsible for powering nearly every non-video interaction across the platform. The ideal candidate is a strong backend engineer with a proven track record building consumer-facing products and taking features from concept through launch. While this is a lead-level opportunity, the role is approximately 80% hands-on engineering and 20% technical leadership, making it ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring teammates while remaining deeply involved in architecture, design, and development. This individual will collaborate closely with product, engineering, analytics, and stakeholder teams to deliver scalable APIs and customer-facing experiences used by millions of users across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms. The team operates in a fast-moving, ownership-driven environment with minimal bureaucracy, providing the opportunity to make meaningful technical and product impact from day one. This is a fully remote role.

Day-to-Day:

• Serve as a technical leader on an 8-person Product API team
• Mentor engineers and provide guidance on architecture and design decisions
• Build and enhance backend services powering customer-facing streaming experiences
• Partner closely with Product Managers, client engineering teams, analytics, and data science teams
• Design and deliver APIs supporting millions of users across web, mobile, and TV platforms
• Own critical product features including recommendations, search, user preferences, notifications, experiments, and catalog experiences
• Drive scalability, reliability, observability, and performance improvements
• Lead technical discussions, unblock teammates, and help guide multi-quarter initiatives
• Ship features, manage releases, triage issues, and advocate for engineering quality

8+ years of backend software engineering experience

• Experience working in B2C / consumer facing products
• Building user facing functionality not just backend infrastructure
• 2+ years of leadership / mentorship capabilities
• Experience collaborating directly with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience owning features from concept through delivery

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience using Graph QL
• Experience using Node.js/Typescript
• Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS experience
