Job description
Transportation Solutions & Lighting is seeking an experienced, hands-on IT & Technical Operations Manager to oversee our technical platforms, security camera systems, company websites, field technicians, and customer support operations.
This is not a traditional office IT position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing people, technology, customer requests, and outside vendors while helping coordinate the installation, programming, monitoring, and ongoing support of advanced public-safety systems.
Our company installs and supports security cameras, emergency communication towers, cellular call boxes, solar-powered equipment, networking systems, and other technology used by universities, municipalities, parks, hospitals, and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, schedule, and support our field service technicians.
- Review technician assignments, service tickets, project requirements, and completion reports.
- Help troubleshoot technical issues remotely and determine when an onsite visit is required.
- Manage and support our security camera platforms, video management systems, cellular routers, networking equipment, and cloud-based monitoring platforms.
- Assist with camera programming, system configuration, remote access, user permissions, firmware updates, and system health checks.
- Coordinate technical installations and ensure systems are properly tested, documented, and turned over to the customer.
- Respond to customer technical questions, service requests, and system issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Work directly with customers to diagnose problems and provide clear status updates.
- Manage service tickets and ensure customer requests are followed through to completion.
- Create and maintain system documentation, installation standards, passwords, equipment records, and customer configuration information.
- Coordinate with manufacturers, cellular providers, software vendors, and technical support teams.
- Assist with training technicians and customers on new equipment and platforms.
- Monitor system performance and identify recurring technical or operational issues.
- Help improve internal processes for installation, service, troubleshooting, documentation, and customer support.
- Participate in project planning, equipment selection, system design, and technical reviews.
- Manage and maintain the company's websites in coordination with our web designer.
- Coordinate website updates, new product pages, project photos, landing pages, technical information, and company content.
- Review website updates for accuracy, appearance, mobile compatibility, and functionality.
- Make sure the company's websites remain current, professional, secure, and aligned with our products, services, and marketing goals.
- Manage website change requests and ensure the web designer completes updates on schedule.
- Assist with website forms, lead notifications, analytics, basic SEO, domain management, hosting, and website integrations.
- Coordinate with internal staff to collect new project information, product details, photos, and content for the websites.
- Provide occasional after-hours assistance for urgent customer or system issues.
Systems and Technology
Experience with some of the following is preferred:
- IP security cameras and video management systems
- Network Video Recorders and cloud-managed camera systems
- Cellular routers, SIM cards, LTE, and 5G connectivity
- TCP/IP networking, VPNs, firewalls, switches, and wireless networks
- Remote monitoring and device-management platforms
- Access control, emergency communication, or public-safety systems
- Microsoft 365 and general business IT support
- Field-service management and ticketing platforms
- Solar-powered technology and battery-backed systems
- Technical documentation and asset-management systems
- Website content management systems
- Website hosting, domains, forms, analytics, and basic SEO
Requirements
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in IT, networking, security cameras, low-voltage systems, technical support, or field-service operations.
- Previous experience supervising technicians, installers, or technical support personnel.
- Strong understanding of networking, IP-based devices, remote connectivity, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with security cameras or video management systems is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing a company website and coordinating with web designers, developers, or digital marketing vendors is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple customer requests, service tickets, website projects, and active installations simultaneously.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to customers and employees.
- Highly organized, dependable, and focused on completing tasks.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities may change.
- Ability to troubleshoot independently and take ownership of problems through resolution.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to occasionally travel to customer sites.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, stays organized, and does not allow customer requests, technical problems, website updates, or technician assignments to fall through the cracks.
The right candidate will be equally comfortable working with technicians in the field, troubleshooting a camera or network issue, communicating with a customer, coordinating with a web designer, and improving the internal systems used to manage our technical operations.
This position requires a leader who is willing to be hands-on and help the team solve problems-not simply assign tasks.
