Job description
The Streaming Media Engineering team is seeking a talented and motivated senior media application engineer to help lead the design and implementation of AirPlay on third-party devices. You will work cross-functionally with a wide range of design and engineering teams to develop new features and APIs for adoption by third-party partners. You will take technical ownership across key areas of the team's work, collaborating closely with engineering and the design teams to deliver polished, high quality AirPlay experience that reach billions of customers globally.
Responsibilities
Lead and define the team's technical direction, system architecture, and API design.
Collaborate with engineering teams across Apple, and partner organizations, to align on requirements, and deliver incredible products and experience for our customers.
Participate in design discussions and code reviews to maintain AirPlay system health and quality.
Root-cause and resolve complex issues spanning the media framework, SDK, and connectivity layer.
Drive improvements to connectivity, media playback performances, reliability and customer experience.
Requirements
BS or MS in CS/CE or equivalent, and 8+ years of programming experience, with demonstrated proficiency across C/C++, Objective-C, and JavaScript.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Demonstrated technical leadership experience.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Actively uses GenAI tools (code assistants, agents) in daily engineering workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with audio and video codecs such as H.264/HEVC/AAC/AV1.
Experience with networking protocols.
Knowledge of adaptive streaming technologies such as HLS or DASH.
Experience using HTML5 based video playback technologies such as MSE and EME.
Experience with mobile devices, embedded devices, and media players.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $142,300 and $263,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
