Job description

Lead and support a staff responsible for the 3D Measurement and post-processing of scanned data for Design Center Studio and Vehicle Aerodynamic properties. The position requires oversight of a 2-shift measurement operation, staffed with UAW journeypersons using Creaform and GOM measurement systems and Salary Represented staff using Polyworks post-processing applications. The work is technical, organizational, and administrative in nature using people skills, computer applications and advanced technologies.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership, resolving safety concerns, leading safety investigations, and supporting the safety champions

  • Demonstrate behaviors that support diversity and inclusion within the organization

  • Develop standardized work, and perform annual staff reviews

  • Support DCF team members and supervisors from other Design Fabrication Shops

  • Lead and support a team of Skilled Trades and Salary Represented personal that are responsible for reverse engineering and inspection of physical properties

  • Provide user training and mentoring of scanning technologies and associated post-processing applications

  • Promote and foster an environment which encourages team member involvement, training plans, and continuous improvement

  • Provide a leadership role in the implementation of major department initiatives

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals and leverage resources to solve quality problems

  • Diagnose, repair or schedule service with measurement devices

  • Communicate between shifts and cross-functionally to implement best practices, resolve issues while maintaining quality expectations

  • Benchmark various measurement technologies, attend Trade Shows and Conferences

  • Interpret and analyze Polyworks inspector color error maps

  • Maintain Sharpoint customer portal for 3D Scan requests, This role is categorized as onsite. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a full-time basis.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of applied experience with measurement systems, machining tools, additive manufacturing technologies or similar

  • Knowledgeable in Innovmetric Polyworks, NX CAD/CAM, or similar software applications

  • Ability to recommend methods and strategies for the reverse engineering or inspection of componentry or full-size vehicles

  • Knowledgeable in interpreting and validating inspection reports

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills with capability to identify solutions to unusual and complex problems

  • Familiar with the fundamentals and principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and able to communicate inspection variations

  • Skilled at using measuring tools, Renshaw or similar probes, calipers, dial indicators, height gages, etc...

  • Knowledgeable in Polyworks modeler and inspection applications, NX Team Center and CAD applications

  • Proficient with non-contact measurement devices, CNC machine tools and controls, or similar technologies

  • Experience working on a variety of concurrent projects

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high workload, while being very innovative and displaying outstanding initiative

  • Knowledge of benchmarking criteria for measurement devices and behavior of associated systems

  • The ability to articulate and positively influence various reverse engineering and inspection processes

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with teams to ensure successful project completion

  • Capable of performing any system upgrades to the scanning hardware and software applications, calibration of systems, and diagnose issues as necessary

  • Coordinate with other GM organizations for special projects

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Applied associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledgeable of GM corporate safety standards
  • Skilled at dealing with and resolving ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability at building effective teams
  • Experience with UAW personnel resources
  • Ability to build relationships with suppliers to address issues with urgency, remove roadblocks, and collaborate to ensure successful project completion
