Job description
Backend Development & API Ownership: You build and operate scalable backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Nest.js. You think in end-to-end systems and make sure our services are stable, maintainable, and production-ready. Architecture & Scalability: You design clean, scalable backend architectures and make pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed with long-term maintainability. Cloud Infrastructure & Operations: You work with AWS services such as S3, EC2, RDS, and Lambda and help ensure that our systems run reliably, including in production. CI/CD & Engineering Excellence: You see CI/CD not just as deployment mechanics, but as a lever for quality and speed. You work with pipelines covering testing, linting, builds, deployments, and rollbacks, and help make our delivery processes more robust over time. Cross-functional Collaboration: You work closely with Product, Sales, and the rest of the engineering team to ship features quickly and reliably, and to build technical solutions with real business impact. Ownership & Technical Direction: As part of a small team currently made up of three engineers, you take real ownership of the systems you build and actively contribute to the technical evolution of our platform., you want to work mostly remote. We believe the best ideas happen when people are in the same room. That is why you are in our office at least four days a week.
...you want to walk into ready-made processes and structures. A lot of that does not exist here yet. We are looking for people who build structures and processes, not people who administer them.
...you need a finished plan before you start. Seed stage means a lot is unclear and changes week to week. You have to be comfortable making decisions in the dark and correcting course as you go.
...you want to stay in your lane. "That is not my job" is not a thing here. You jump in where it matters, even when it sits outside your job description.
...you want a classic 9-to-5. We are building something big, and that does not happen on the side. The people here want to go all in, not just put in the time.
Requirements
Must Have:Backend Experience: You have 2-4 years of experience building production backend systems and APIs, and a strong understanding of clean, scalable software architecture. Backend Engineering Fundamentals: You are confident building production-grade backend systems with TypeScript and Nest.js. You bring hands-on experience with AWS, relational databases such as PostgreSQL, REST API design, and Docker, and understand how to build, run, debug, and maintain reliable services in production. AI-native Development: You use AI tools effectively to accelerate software development - from prompting and validating generated code to debugging AI-generated implementations. Startup Mentality: You make pragmatic decisions, are comfortable with shifting priorities, and enjoy building in a dynamic startup environment. Communication: You communicate clearly, transparently, and effectively in English.
Nice to Have: Asynchronous & Event-driven Systems: You have experience with asynchronous systems, queues, workers, or event-driven architectures. Full-stack Perspective: You bring experience with Next.js or full-stack development. Additional Languages: You have worked with Python, Go, or other programming languages. Early-stage Experience: You know what it means to work in an early-stage startup and feel comfortable in small, high-impact teams. Collaboration & Mentoring: You give constructive feedback in code reviews, enjoy improving engineering processes, and support other engineers in their development. German Skills: You ideally also speak German.
