Job description
Set the strategic direction for what Fastned builds and owns in software and digital products, including:
- Our Charging Station Management System (Revolt)
- The Fastned customer app and digital business solutions
- All customer-facing platforms: payments, roaming, communication protocols, and API integrations
- Internal digital tools that power operations
Your role here is to ensure our external-facing technology consistently delivers a best-in-class customer experience and stays ahead of the market. You will own the make-or-buy framework, keeping Product & Engineering focused on what genuinely differentiates Fastned. This is more than engineering. It spans product management, product discovery, and design. You will lead empowered product teams that own customer and business outcomes end to end, and protect the ways of working that let them move fast and stay close to the customer.
Charging & Station Technology (Engineering & Technology)
Own the technology roadmap for our charging hardware and energy infrastructure, including:
- EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) selection and charger architecture
- Energy Management Systems (EMS), smart station intelligence, and grid optimisation
- Battery and storage integration
- Grid integration: with vehicles, with the network, and with each other
Hardware decisions compound over years and directly determine unit economics, reliability and customer experience. You will define the hardware standards and architecture that enable rapid, repeatable station deployment at scale, and ensure our stations are equipped to handle the energy challenges that will define the next decade of fast charging.
Energy Procurement & Commercial Optimisation
Energy related topics have a material impact on our P&L and are a strategic lever for Fastned. This domain sits at the intersection of our station technology, grid architecture, and financial performance. The commercial and risk related decisions in this domain sit with Finance.
You will own our technology and data capabilities related to this, including:
- Energy sourcing strategy and price risk management
- Renewable energy credits and certificate management
- Energy invoice auditing and efficiency across all markets
- Market exposure management and procurement terms optimisation.
Integration & Enabling Layer (IT & Business Systems)
Drive the evolution and modernisation of Fastned's internal IT ecosystem, including ERP, finance systems, business and workplace systems, connectivity, and operational tools. You will:
- Define and own the overall systems architecture, ensuring our systems are integrated, interoperable, and built to scale across markets
- Embed cybersecurity, data governance, and compliance into the architecture from day one, not as an afterthought
- Manage relationships with external vendors, system integrators, and technology partners, making deliberate build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions
The goal: every person in the organisation has access to the right tools, information and IT support, reliably, securely, and at any time.
What you will do
Define the Technology Strategy & Roadmap
Define and own Fastned's multi-year technology roadmap across all three domains, ensuring strong alignment within the technology vertical and across the business, so that business objectives are realised. Set clear boundaries between what Fastned builds, buys, and integrates, always anchored in what will enable our growth and set us apart. Bring the roadmap to the Executive Team and ensure it is understood and backed across the business.
Drive Technology Transformation
Lead Fastned's end-to-end systems transformation, from current-state audit to future-state architecture, with a clear plan, clear ownership, and measurable milestones. Champion a culture of innovation, including using automation and AI tools where they genuinely reduce friction and free teams to focus on higher-value work.
Partner with Executive Leadership
As a member of the Executive Team, you will contribute to Fastned's overall strategic direction, resolve cross-functional priorities, and hold the organisation accountable to its ambitions. You will work in close collaboration with the COO, CFO, and CCO, serving as the connective tissue between technology, operations, and commercial performance.
Manage Energy Commercial Performance
Take active ownership of Fastned's energy sourcing and commercial optimisation across markets, with over €60 million of annual P&L at stake:
Set the framework for energy procurement and price exposure management. Account for renewable energy credits and ensure accuracy of energy invoices. Collaborate with the CFO and commercial leadership to continuously improve energy cost performance.
What success looks like
- Technology that makes Fastned faster, smarter and harder to replicate
- A systems architecture that is scalable, integrated, and ready to support growth across all European markets
- Customer-facing technology (app, CMS, payments, roaming) that grows charging volumes, stays reliable, and consistently sets the standard in the market
- Charging hardware that delivers best-in-class uptime and reliability, with a station architecture that enables rapid, repeatable deployment at scale
- Battery and grid integration that reduces energy costs, manages peak demand, and unlocks station deployment where grid capacity is constrained
- World-class network operations enabled by the right tools, data, intelligence and automation
- Internal systems, tooling, connectivity and IT operations that reduce friction and increase effectiveness across the whole business., Fastned is a company with a mission that matters and a team that is genuinely building something new. We work hard to change the world, but we don't forget to recognise & celebrate our successes, big and small. Our benefits include:
- Stock option plan - we believe in shared value creation.
- Attractive pension plan, fully covered by Fastned.
- Company bonus plan.
- 29 holidays. Additionally, we give you 2 "Mission Days" to contribute to Fastned's mission or support a cause that matters to you.
- Yearly training budget of €3,000.
- Access to the mental health platform Nilo Health, including 10 sessions with a psychologist of your choice.
- Urban Sports Club subscription.
- Additional parental benefits above the legal minimum, including coaching via Foundtree.
- Access to the Women's Health platform Flouria.
- Daily lunches, snacks, and drinks at our office locations.
- Company events year-round, including an exciting yearly trip abroad with all employees.
Requirements
You are a senior technology leader with a track record of making high-stakes, cross-domain technology decisions in fast-moving, complex environments. You think boldly about how technology drives business change, and you translate that vision into systems and teams that actually deliver. You are as comfortable reasoning about hardware architecture and EV charging infrastructure as you are about software product strategy and internal systems. You build organisations that think in scalability and outcomes, not just solutions to today's problems.
Critically, you hold genuine authority across the full technology landscape: not a software specialist who tolerates hardware, or a hardware engineer who struggles with product thinking. You bring the technical credibility to challenge your teams on substance, and the leadership skills to enable them to thrive. You make fast, clear decisions even when the data is incomplete., Leadership and experience
- 10+ years in technology leadership roles, including at least 3 to 5 years at VP or CTO level in a business where technology is a direct driver of competitive advantage
- A proven track record of leading end-to-end technology transformation at scale: from current-state audit to future-state delivery, with clear milestones, measurable outcomes, and strong vendor and partner management
- Experience defining and executing a multi-year technology roadmap aligned to business strategy
- Strong people leadership: you enable Directors to run their domains, build trust and followership, break functional silos, and drive a genuine bias to outcomes over outputs
- Commercial awareness and business acumen: you understand how technology decisions translate into unit economics, customer experience and competitive positioning
- The ability to engage credibly with the Executive Team and Board on technology strategy, translating complex trade-offs into clear strategic choices.
Technical knowledge
- Strong grasp of software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and platform design, with enough depth to challenge engineering teams on substance and make credible build-vs-buy decisions
- Solid familiarity across software (SaaS, platforms, integrations), IT ecosystems and business systems, and hardware or IoT environments
- Familiarity with cybersecurity, data governance, and compliance frameworks, with a track record of embedding these into architecture from the start
- Familiarity with smart grid technologies, charging protocols (such as OCPP), EMS or connected hardware environments is a strong advantage., * Experience in EV, energy, infrastructure, mobility or telecoms: industries where connected hardware, high uptime, and energy management are central
- Background leading both software product and hardware engineering organisations simultaneously
- Experience scaling technology across multiple European markets.
